VS Hangout Corner: Sonic VS Goku (OUTDATED AS HELL)
“Whatever you fight, you strengthen, and what you resist, persists.” - Eckhart Tolle
Son Goku, the boy left alone from Dragon Ball.
Sonic the Hedgehog, the fastest thing alive from… um… Sonic the Hedgehog.
The vast universe that we know possesses many mysteries, and many threats, those being the ones who point and focus to destroy our beloved homes, planets and cosmos. However, in the darkness, there is always light. These both cheerful, optimistic, brave and powerful characters from two iconic franchises are the saviors from their respective worlds, and with good fights, they save not only their friends, but their entire universe. But in a fight, who would come out on top? Will Dragon Ball’s Super Saiyan be able to break his limits for a win, or will the Blue Blur break through It all and earn his victory? Time to see who between these transforming powerhouses would win a DEATH BATTLE!
Before we start…
For Goku, we will be looking into basically every single piece of media that could be considered canon or canon adjacent: the original Dragon Ball manga and anime, the Dragon Ball Z anime, the Dragon Ball Super anime and manga, Dragon Ball Kai, and the Super movies. Additionally, while non-canon, we'll also be using Dragon Ball GT and all of the Toei movies, since they don't contradict canon too heavily. For outside sources, we'll mainly be using the Daizenshuu guides, but with quotations from other guides, tweets and interviews whenever they don't contradict canon. However, canon-disconnected material like Dragon Ball Heroes, Xenoverse, the Dragon Ball Evolution film, the crossovers with One Piece and Doctor Slug, and other non-canon games will be excluded from the blog (duh).
For Sonic, we will be looking at almost all of his games: mainlines, spin-offs, racing games, mobile games, and others, with official guides, manuals, interviews and author/writer commentary also being included, as long as they don’t heavily contradict what is shown in the events of the franchise. That also applies to statements, tweets or descriptions. IDW Comics, Netflix’s Sonic Prime and Tailstube from the official Sonic YouTube channel will also be counted for this blog, due to being officially considered canon media. Things like the Sonic Boom games and TV show, Fleetway’s Sonic the Comic and Archie comics, the SatAM and AoStH cartoons, and the Paramount’s Sonic the Hedgehog movies will NOT be included in this blog, due to being completely different interpretations from the main canon. Additionally, the Sonic X anime, the Sonic the Hedgehog OVA and Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood RPG will be considered in this blog. Even though they are different stories, or non-canon to the games, they don’t heavily differentiate from the main canon as much as the previous mentioned ones, and thus can be applicable as secondary canon.
Note: This blog WILL contain spoilers for both series, especially Dragon Ball Super’s manga and the more recent Sonic content. If you want to avoid spoilers, please, read this blog another day. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
This blog also may contain texts and explanations from other sources like VSBW, G1 Blogs, and wikis of the characters, alongside posts from some Reddit accounts, especially Juno for helping with writing some of Goku's stuff here, and Lights and Mehmenga for some of the Sonic stuff. All credits to them, they were really helpful for this blog.
With this said, we hope you have a way past cool reading! Enjoy!
Backgrounds
Goku
"You look strong! This should be a good fight!"
Through the vast cosmos of our universe, lies a small, blueish planet. If you were a planet conqueror, you might not see anything special in it. Maybe just another insignificant civilization to add to your list of dominated planets. You, however, would be sorely mistaken, and it wouldn't take long to realize that as you're faced with this planet's defender. Sent from a distant planet soon before its destruction, he was sent into that solar system as the last hope of their race. His name? Kal-E– uhh, I mean, Kakarot. But he goes by Son Goku, the saiyan raised on earth.
Training under a plethora of different masters, Goku is a prodigy in martial arts and the use of ki, very quickly learning multiple fighting styles and ki techniques with ease. That talent, combined with his own hard work and devotion to training caused him to become one of the greatest fighters known not only on Earth, but on the whole universe, and eventually across the entire multiverse.
This same journey put him against many adversaries, which resulted in the some of his greatest friendships, like with Yamcha the desert bandit and the prince of all Saiyans Vegeta, but also consequently put him against some of his greatest foes, like Cell, the perfect lifeform and Frieza, the greatest land shark of the universe.
Goku's dedication and sheer power and determination were great enough to put him on the radar for Beerus, the almighty God of Destruction and his angel assistant Whis! Under their training, Goku's power has grown exponentially, and also served as an opportunity to face foes from other universes, further intensifying his drive to become the strongest.
Whether he's fighting the malevolent army of Red Ribbon, the intergalactic Frieza Force, or representing Universe 7 on the multiversal Tournament of Power, Son Goku will protect his friends and family, regardless of what it takes.
And also, take it as an opportunity to enjoy a good battle and grow even stronger, while he's at it.
Sonic
“Ah, yeah! This is happenin’!”
In a weird and alternative version of the planet Earth (yeah, it’s not even Earth or Mobius), humans and anthropomorphic animals coexist. Small animals known as Flickies also hop around the area. But don’t let peace fool you, because this planet has been threatened several times by the genius scientist known as Doctor Ivo Robotnik, nickname… “Doctor Eggman.”
Eggman, and the brilliant mind he is, uses it to take over the world, building all kinds of robotic creatures you can imagine who are called Badniks, and trying to get his hands on these gems with unlimited power called Chaos Emeralds. Guess what? Mister Egg Poopy Poopy Butt uses the innocent Flickies to power up his robots! Oh no! But turns out, something… always gets in his way. Someone is always there to ruin his plans of world domination, spin dashing his armies and defeating him time and time again. A cocky, blue hedgehog who runs as fast as the speed of sound named Sonic. Sonic the Hedgehog.
Created by SEGA in the 90’s, to defeat a certain plumber in sellings, Mr. Needlehouse made his very first debut in 1991, in the SEGA Genesis, or Mega Drive (fun fact, his first appearance ever in a game was in Rad Mobile, not Sonic the Hedgehog!).
As his name very much implies, Sonic’s whole reputation is around speed: quick movements and reflexes, fast paced gameplay that differentiated him from any other cool game around! Not to mention his fun personality: waving his fingers of impatience, tapping his foot on the ground, and even killing himself if you take too long to play the freaking game. His taunting, playful and sometimes annoying personality would develop as his games started to take a fresh redesign, appealing more to his teen audience. Oh, yeah! Did I mention his friends? I bet you already know how wild the Sonic cast gets, varying from his best buddy, Miles “Tails” Prower, a yellow fox with two tails who can use them to fly, Knuckles the Echidna, who glides and punches the best, Amy Rose, SIlver the Hedgehog, Mighty, Ray, uh…. Big the Cat…. AND THE ALPHA BASED SIGMA MALE SHADOW THE HEDGEHOG!!!! (There's many more)
From adventure to adventure, Sonic lives and learns from all the things he does. Not only Eggman and his machines get in his way, but several other threads! Including world destroyers like Dark Gaia, enormous titans, a monster who eats time and space, and literal gods! God damn, what do those chili-dogs have in them for Sonic to be that tough? Even with gods, monsters, machines or storybooks on his way, Sonic and his friends continue to save the planet and the universe, always discovering new frontiers in their way and facing whatever gets on their way!
Experience and Skill
Goku
Although he lacks knowledge when it comes to things that aren't related to fighting, Goku is a master of prodigal skill when it comes to martial arts, with years of experience fighting against powerful opponents with a plethora of abilities. Goku has been practicing and enhancing his martial arts skill since the day he was born. His primary style is the Turtle Hermit martial arts style taught to him by Roshi, which he has stuck with ever since it was first taught to him. The Turtle Hermit style focuses on endurance and precision, conserving energy only for when needed rather than wasting it on lesser attacks. His martial arts talent has competed with Hit’s quick kill assassin like style which he has honed for a thousand years, and Goku himself is as good at the style as Roshi himself, who has practiced it for hundreds. Most notably, Goku directly competed with his Grandpa Gohan when Goku was a kid, which as impressive as Gohan has been stated to be a master of all martial arts disciplines known on Earth. His skill when it comes to combat and the usage of ki allows him to replicate other ki-based techniques after seeing them once, and he was the first to realize how much energy the Super Saiyan transformations unnecessarily drained. Despite this drawback, he was the first to master the Super Saiyan state, making it highly efficient. He is a genius in combat and is capable of devising new applications of his techniques on the fly, such as using Kamehameha with his feet. Capable of analyzing and copying Beerus' fighting style, allowing him to match Beerus' attacks and cancel out the shockwaves that threatened the universe. Later in Super, before adapting to Hit's time stop, he was able to predict the movements he'd make in the 0.1 seconds of frozen time and react properly. Immediately figured out how to use a ki blast to restart his heart when it was "crushed" by Hit's ki blast. Additionally, Goku has become the first mortal to master Ultra Instinct, a technique that even the Gods find difficult to learn, relying purely on his muscle memory and something "beyond" instinct to fight, no longer needing to consciously think to do so while being more serious in this form.
Sonic
Through years of countless adventures, Sonic has shown himself to be a skilled and formidable combatant. The Blue Blur's single greatest asset is his signature speed, which he has demonstrated complete mastery over in any environment due to full control of his momentum. Because of this, Sonic excels in applying his speed and agility into evasive maneuvers and offensive techniques fueled by momentum-based combat. Beyond clever applications of Sonic's speed is his capacity for adaptability and quick learning; such as when he realized Shadow was using the Chaos Emerald to "warp" despite never having encountered it. He later replicated Chaos Control himself with a fake Chaos Emerald, something that Shadow deemed impossible despite his intricacies with Chaos Energy. Sonic can also quickly notice and adapt to a person's fighting style, such as when he could fight Emerl when the Gizoid had the skills and data of the entire playable cast. Sonic became the successor of the secret Linshao Kung Fu and with less than a day of training, he effortlessly applied his speed to his swordplay and bested the legendary Knights of the Round Table. He was also referred to by Doctor Starline as the only being capable of standing up to Dr. Eggman with sheer skill alone. Despite Dr. Eggman's intellect and vast list of creations, such as machines with years of research into Sonic's movement patterns, Sonic has come out on top over 227,000 times. He is even capable of hacking the Doctor's technology
Equipment
Goku
Senzu Beans
Grown by Korin on his tower, these magic green beans are incredibly versatile and powerful healing items. Senzu beans heal any type of physical damage inflicted to the user, even fatal sounds, having healing potent enough to heal Yamcha after being donuted by Android 19, and Future Trunks stated that it could even heal Future Gohan's lost arm. On top of those healing capabilities, they also regenerate stamina and ki reserves to their fullest, and a single bean can feed a regular person for 10 days (however, due to being a Saiyans, his metabolism is increased, and thus, this effect wouldn't be as effective on him). It doesn't come without its limitations, however. They cannot heal injuries that have already been naturally healed, like scars and cut tails, and as stated in the Android Saga, it cannot heal diseases and other ailments, like Goku's heart disease. Finally, their supply is rather limited, as it takes a long time to grow them. For this blog, we will be giving Goku a dozen Senzu Beans, much like he received from Korin back in the Namek Saga.
Power Pole
A magical length changing pole given to Goku by Grandpa Gohan that is able to grow hundreds of times its original length, even extending from the Earth’s surface to the moon. It is stated to be unbreakable, with Goku being fantastic at using its unique properties for close quarters combat.
Flying Nimbus
With a simple loud call, Goku can summon Nimbus to come help him fly around the battlefield. It can only be used by those with a pure heart. While Ki based flight kind of invalidates the fluffy cloud, it can still be helpful in a pinch were Goku not to have access to traditional flight.
Sonic
Rings
Rings are a big part of the Sonic games. If you ever played one, you will see one in the very first moment the levels start. Don’t get me wrong, it’s pretty easy to miss them as applicable in versus debates. You'd rather think they are just collectables to buy whatever the game offers, but, they’re actually pretty helpful to Sonic. As seen in Sonic Prime, he collects rings and even says it makes him feel more safe in combat. Media like Sonic Twitter Takeover also implies the Rings’ existence. Rings serve as a speed booster/damage absorber for Sonic. In recent games like Sonic Frontiers, we can see that Sonic upon collecting rings gets an increase in his speed in the form of Power Boost, and it has been also stated that Sonic's speed gradually increases to its maximum when collecting Rings. In other games like Sonic Forces: Speed Battle, Rings are essential for you to win a match, given how collecting even one single ring is enough to increase your speed, concluding that the Rings are a helpful multiplier to the hedgehog's power and speed. It also helps in his durability, as when he gets damage, the Rings take the damage instead of Sonic saving him from things like standing in lava or attacks that could kill him. Even with a single ring, he can endure attacks that otherwise would be lethal. Although Sonic can collect a limited amount of rings, he can still carry around a good part of them. For example, in most games, Sonic is shown collecting, at best, 999 rings. However, in Sonic the Hedgehog (2006), he can carry almost 10 million rings.
When Sonic takes damage in the games, he loses some of those rings, though. As seen in games like Sonic Forces: Speed Battle, he loses about 10 rings each time he gets hit, or if you want to go with more recent examples, in Sonic Frontiers, he loses, at best, about 20 rings when getting hit.
Light Speed Shoes
Their appearance can vary, but in all games, these shoes essentially look like Sonic’s own shoes (or in Unleashed’s case, they are just Sonic’s shoes but golden), and they share the same function, that is, after using the Spin-Dash to charge, lets Sonic perform the Light Speed Dash through a trail of Rings (Light Speed Dash’s gonna be talked more in Abilities section)
Crystal Ring
The Crystal Bracelet is a simple and smooth cyan colored bracelet that Sonic wears in his wrist. It allows Sonic to take half the time to charge the Light Speed Dash. It also changes Sonic’s aura when charging the Light Speed Dash to a more turquoise color, it’s pretty neat!
Ancient Light
The Ancient Light is a hovering orb of light that is absorbed on contact. It allows Sonic to perform the Light Speed Attack (more in Abilities section).
Bounce Bracelet
Allows Sonic to perform Bound Jump, which just… makes Sonic kick like a basketball, and reach higher places.
Flame Ring
A gold ring with an orange/red gem on top (that glows), which allows Sonic to perform the Fire Somersault to break metal boxes.
Magic Hands/Gloves
(The peakest Sonic Level Up item frfr)
The Magic Hands, also known as Magic Gloves, is a… weirder upgrade. By approaching an enemy, this upgrade lets Sonic explode the enemy, and turn them into a little bubble that you can throw at other opponents. Doesn’t make any sense, right? He explodes an enemy, but they didn’t explode, but turned into a little bubble? Yeah, like I said, it’s weird.
Mystic Melody
The Mystic Melody is a floating, white glowing orb that emits transparent notes and small rings. Once obtained, it allows Sonic to play a "mystical melody" on a transverse flute that, near to an Ancient Ruin, creates new paths on the stage.
(Good luck trying to find one in a fight tho)
Gems
Gems that can be purchased in Sonic 06. These 7 gems (the Rainbow Gem didn’t get into the game, it doesn’t exist) grants Sonic unique abilities:
Green Gem: Let’s Sonic perform Tornado, which makes him create a tornado around him by breakdancing.
Red Gem: Let’s Sonic perform Slow, which slows down time… even for himself.
Blue Gem: Let’s Sonic perform Mach Speed, which boosts his speed (and it’s really hard to control in game. He bumps into a wall like, a lot of times).
Sky Gem: Let’s Sonic perform Gun Drive, which gives Sonic access to cyan gems that, when throwed to a certain location and touching the surface, sends Sonic flying to that location at rapid speeds and landing safely.
Yellow Gem: Let’s Sonic perform Thunder Guard, an electric shield that can absorb rings, and protects Sonic from one hit, but if that happens, the shield will disappear. However, Sonic can quickly just create another one (because Sonic 06 devs forgot to put limits in the use of the gems).
Purple Gem: Let’s Sonic perform Scale, which decreases his size and… jumps infinitely…… wow.
White Gem: Let’s Sonic perform Homing Smash, which makes Sonic freeze in midair to aim a homing attack better.
Blue Star II
Sonic’s Board-type Extreme Gear that he uses in the Sonic Riders series. The Blue Star II was built by Tails (though according to its profile, it was produced by Robotnik Corp.). It is especially made for the Speed Type. It is unlocked in the game after Sonic defeats Jet the Hawk at Babylon Garden in the Heroes Story in Story Mode. As a Board-type Extreme Gear in Sonic Riders, the Blue Star II is well-balanced in its attributes with average statistics, an average rate of fuel-consumption and is suited for general riding. Like most other character exclusive Extreme Gear, the Blue Star does not possess any unique abilities. In comparison to the Blue Star, the Blue Star II focuses more on speed, but lacks greater movement control.
Ark of the Cosmos
The Ark of the Cosmos are five ancient, ring-shaped metallic stones created by the Babylonians that allow the user to manipulate gravity. Sonic had access to one of them, where he wears on his right wrist. The Arks of the Cosmos possess a magnetic field that allows Sonic to take a mass's energy, or gravity, and convert it into other forms of energy, making them a powerful energy source. This also allows him to manipulate gravity, making it possible to either negate gravity or create bursts of gravity that can repel obstacles at will.
Item Boxes
Throughout various Sonic games, you’ve seen a lot of those. These item boxes help Sonic during stages, giving him protection and upgrades. Item boxes include:
Shield: Protects Sonic from receiving damage, pops out after getting one hit.
Bubble Shield: Like a normal shield, protects Sonic from one hit and pops out after one hit, but this, alongside the other elemental shields, have special abilities. This one lets Sonic breathe underwater, reflect small projectiles, and bounce like a ball.
Flame Shield: Alongside the capabilities of a normal shield, it makes Sonic completely immune to fire and lets him perform the Fireball Spin-Dash, which let’s Sonic dash in mid air with fire around him when jumping.
Electric Shield: Alongside the capabilities of a normal shield, it makes Sonic attract rings and gives an extra jump for Sonic. It can also reflect small projectiles.
Invincibility: Grants temporarily invincibility for Sonic, that lasts to 20 seconds at best.
Power Sneakers: Significantly boosts Sonic’s speed for about 20 seconds at best.
Super Ring: Gives Sonic Rings. Varies, but it’s around 5, 10 or even 50.
Teleporter: Makes Sonic and his opponent swap places.
High Speed: Upon breaking, Sonic receives a burst of speed from a forward dash that lasts for a few moments.
Invincible: Makes Sonic completely immune to obstacles and enemy’s special abilities for 10 seconds.
Rocket Shoes: A pair of shoes that have rockets stuck on them, letting Sonic have a limited flight for 10 seconds.
Extra life: Grants Sonic an extra life.
Robotnik: Breaking this monitor makes whoever broke it take damage.
Dash: Same effect as High Speed.
Mine: Sonic is able to drop the obtained mine to leave a hazard for opponents.
Jump: Makes Sonic jump high like a spring.
???: Gives Sonic a random item box effect.
Gold Shield: Alongside the capabilities of a normal shield, grants Sonic the ability to use the Blast Attack (which is similar to a Homing Attack).
Red Shield: Alongside the capabilities of a normal shield, gives fire immunity to Sonic.
Grow: Once used, it enlarges Sonic to twice his previous height while he gains improved speed and jumping capabilities.
Shrink: Once used, it shortens Sonic to half his previous height while decreasing maximum speed and jump height for 20 seconds.
Screw Shoes: Sonic gains propeller engines at the heels of their shoes, enabling underwater movement and exploration for 8 seconds.
Snowboard: Gives Sonic a snowboard, lasts until he gets hit.
Pogo Spring: A spring is created underneath Sonic’s feet, putting him at a set speed and allowing him to jump at any point for even greater height at the cost of the spring itself.
Smart Bomb: Upon use, all enemies on screen are destroyed.
Skateboard: Summons a skateboard. AWESOME.
Explosion: Creates a bomb that, on contact, explodes. If it doesn’t, it will eventually explode on its own.
Ring Can: Sonic shakes a can to obtain more Rings.
High Speed: Sonic is given a sudden burst of speed.
Colorball: Obscures the opponent’s vision with colored paint.
Bowling Strike: A bowling ball is thrown into an opponent, paralyzing on contact.
Free Throw: Stuns an opponent with a basketball.
Octo-Boost: The Octo-Boost creates an exhaust from its mouth, giving Sonic a burst in speed.
Octo-Ink: Releases ink to block an opponent’s vision.
Soda Rocket: A soda can with an image of Dr. Eggman on it. Shaking it will enlarge the soda can, with the user jumping on the giant can to gain a few moments of being shot forward at extreme velocities.
Target Torpedo: The user will gain a torpedo, which will lock onto whatever target the user is aiming at before homing in and hitting them directly to inflict damage.
Tee Shot: The user will gain a golf club, allowing them to strike a golf ball at the opponent and stunning them momentarily.
Speed Battle Item Boxes
Item boxes used during gameplay of Sonic Forces: Speed Battle. Unlike the normal ones, these item boxes offer specific character abilities to use on opponents, whether it is to trap them, slow them down or give you speed to blast past them. Because Sonic has alternative skins, thus considered different characters in the game, we’re gonna give him all the abilities from all the Sonics of that game, excluding the Paramount movie versions for obvious reasons.
Moto-Bug: Spawns a Moto-Bug that launches into one opponent. If they’re hit by the Moto-Bug, it will cause them to temporarily be stunned.
Tornado: Spawns three to four fans on the ground that hurt opponents while also making them spin around in the air for a little time.
Fireball: It’s really simple, he throws a fireball at the opponent.
Power Sneakers: Gives him a great boost in speed to pass through opponents.
Ice Mine: Creates three to four spiky ice balls that can make opponents frozen solid.
Sharp Shelter: Creates a small tree with a hole below in front of opponents to deal damage. If Sonic slides beneath the tree, he will gain a shield for a limited time.
Jungle Run: A boost to speed Sonic up. Its speed depends on how much Sonic charges it.
Lilytrap: Creates water sprouts to slow down opponents.
Strike Out: Used by Slugger Sonic, sets loose a baseball, which will travel down the lane it was deployed on in front of Sonic until it hits either a rival character or obstacle, or it wears off. Getting hit by it will deal damage and slow down the opponent.
Home Run: Also used by Slugger Sonic, a unique boost that makes him place four white baseball bases ahead of Sonic on different lanes in their numerical order (namely first base, then second base, then third base and finally the home plate). When the user makes contact with one of these bases, they will receive a momentary boost in speed. In addition, if Sonic is able to touch the home base, he will receive an extra long boost in speed.
Ice Boost: Used by Elf Classic Sonic, it’s a boost that can make opponents frozen solid if they get in contact with it.
Flue Shot: Also used by Elf Classic Sonic, it will spawn three to four chimneys, and half of them will expel iron balls with spikes that can damage opponents if hit by it.
Rivals’ Power Ups:
Some unique abilities in the Sonic Rivals series that can gain access to in the races. Those are:
Fire
Offensive Effect: Shoots a fireball that speeds through the track to hit the opponent.
Defensive Effect: Creates a fire shield that protects the user from one hit.
Ice
Offensive Effect: Shoots a blast of ice through the track that freezes the opponent.
Defensive Effect: Drops an ice cube that freezes the opponent if they run into it.
Lightning
Offensive Effect: Zaps the opponent, paralyzing them for a short while.

Offensive Effect: Shoots a mine that homes in on the opponent and explodes on contact.
Defensive Effect: Drops a stationary mine that explodes if the opponent runs into it.
Star
Let’s the user use their Signature Move (more in Abilities section).
Forcejewels
Forcejewels are colorful gemstones that are found in Maginaryworld from Sonic Shuffle. The Forcejewels are used to either give advantages to the user or give disadvantages for your adversary, or vice versa. We won’t be listing all of them due to the majority being only gameplay mechanics.
Forcejewels include:
Force Marchs: Makes players forcefully go to certain spaces.
Barrier Ample: Makes a shield for Sonic so players can’t pass him for 5 turns.
Chamelionite: Transforms into a random Forcejewel, and uses its power immediately.
Duplichaos: Transforms itself into a different Forcejewel.
Low Moonstone: Decreases enemies’ health and attack power.
Medium: Teleports all players to where you are.
Swap Jewel: Switches places with one player.
Warp Crystal: Randomly teleports to a different place.

Caliburn
During the events of Sonic and the Black Knight, one of the storybook game series, Sonic wields this sentient, talking sword, and the legendary weapon Caliburn, who protects the world of Camelot from danger. After playing a part in King Arthur's rise to kingship, only for Arthur to later become the tyrannical Black Knight, Caliburn became Sonic the Hedgehog's partner to stop to Arthur's reign of terror. Though their relationship came off to a rocky start, Caliburn taught Sonic what it meant to be a real knight, and together they stopped Arthur, followed by Merlina the Wizard.
Being a sentient weapon and having a notable criticism, strict guidelines, and great knowledge, he guides Sonic in his fights, and during the plot of the game, trains Sonic to master his skills in swordsmanship to be worthy of being called a knight.
Caliburn is very powerful. Naturally being a sacred weapon and the legendary blade, has a cutting edge sharp enough to cut through rock and metal, albeit with some effort, and even has magical properties. Sonic uses several skills and abilities with Caliburn, such as:
Homing Dash: With Caliburn, Sonic jumps into the air and homes directly into a target at high speeds while leaving a colored trail in his wake like the Homing Attack without curling into a ball and allows Sonic to strike immediately.
Styles: Due to his exceptional skill as a swordsman and quick learning as a whole, Sonic can use different styles of combat with Caliburn in his possession. Each style offers a different approach to combat, allowing for Sonic to change whenever it's necessary or favorable with the situation at hand.
Cavalier Style: The first of three different primary fighting styles. The Cavalier Style grants Sonic greater speed, though at the cost of lowering the damage he can deal to his opponent.
Knight Style: The second of three different primary fighting styles. The Knight Style grants Sonic an equal balance in power and speed with its main focus being the increase in the usage of Soul Surge.
Paladin Style: The third and final style of the three primary fighting styles. The Paladin Style grants Sonic power in the form of greater attack damage, though at the cost of lowering his speed.
Soul Surge: A branching pathway of harnessing Soul when in conjunction with Caliburn. Sonic is capable of producing up to three main affects. The first includes Sonic dashing up to his opponent to the full extent of his speed, appearing as a nearly instantaneous movement, and delivering a powerful slash with Caliburn to his opponent energized by this conserved energy. The second involves Sonic leaping towards his opponent and striking them with a midair kick energized by his conserved energies. The third involves accelerating beyond his top speed on a dime in a with a high-speed dash, capable of easily blitzing foes with initially comparable speeds. This also comes with many of the same or slightly different abilities than the ones from his time with Shahra in the world of the Arabian Nights (which we are gonna talk later).

Psychic Water: A rare concoction capable of providing heightened premonition for short periods.
Revival Ring and Ring of Life: Can revive Sonic, either damaged (Revival Ring) or completely restored in health (Ring of Life).
Rock Salt: A rare earth extract capable of raising one's raw strength for short periods. Moderately increases damage.
Speed Bar: Gives +10 in Speed.
Nitro Blasters
A special pair of shoes made by Chris Thorndyke to help Sonic combat the Metarex in the Sonic X anime. The Nitro Blasters can generate a powerful multicolored energy sphere which can be kicked into targets for explosive damage. In addition, the sphere can bounce between multiple targets for additional hits before it dissipates and it looks dope!
Hover Shoes
Another special pair of shoes created by Chris to help Sonic. As their name implies, the Hover Shoes produce powerful air streams from their jets which let the wearer hover just above the ground and water surfaces. This is especially advantageous for Sonic who is incapable of swimming, allowing him to combat foes in the water. There’s also an unnamed variant of the Hover Shoes that have a built-in jet engine on their heels that enables Sonic to spin faster or hover inside a Ring Tunnel.
Power Shoes
ANOTHER (it’s the last one I swear) pair of shoes created by Chris to help Sonic.
When activated, the Power Shoes protrude rotatable saw blades from the soles. Sonic can then move along any surface at high speed without having to run, while cutting through whatever the Power Shoes slide over.
Chaos Emeralds
“The servers are the seven Chaos. Chaos is power, power is enriched by the heart. The controller is the one that unifies the Chaos.”
Tens of thousands of years ago, a technologically advanced race of extraterrestrials called the Ancients fled their doomed home world in the wake of its destruction caused by a godlike entity known only as The End. They brought with them seven powerful gems as a power source for their spacecrafts in their attempt to seek refuge elsewhere. As their spacecraft passed by the earth, the Chaos Emeralds in their possession resonated with the power of the Master Emerald on the surface of the planet and overrode their navigation systems. This caused the Ancients to land on Earth, where they created a settlement on the Starfall Islands. Due to the Ancients being responsible for the Chaos Emeralds’ arrival on earth, they are inadvertently the catalyst of the numerous major events throughout the series.
It is said that these seven gems contain infinite power, unlimited Chaos energy, can perform miracles, and are powerful enough to control the entire world, the universe, and possibly even the multiverse. Just one Emerald can grant access to unlimited power and radiates enough energy to repel the incomplete Time Eater, power an entire Gaia Temple, and destabilize the crust of a planet.
Each Chaos Emerald has the ability to respond to thoughts and transform them into power in order to create miracles; by "sensing" people's thoughts, the Chaos Emeralds can generate the energy they contain which make them everlasting sources of energy. By focusing one's thoughts, the Emeralds can even bend reality to achieve certain feats, such as showing fabricated visions, performing rituals, reviving the recently deceased (sorry for making you watch the 06 kissing scene), cause flora to bloom over a large area, reverse the pollution of an entire island, shut down facilities, and even make the Emeralds themselves move on their own, but most notably, they can perform the powerful space-time bending ability Chaos Control and let their user transform into a Super State (which we will talk about both of them later!)
Buddies
Chao
Chao are mystical creatures present in the franchise that inhabit various places of earth. Their eggs can be found in a lot of spaces, and can be deposited in the Chao Garden for you to take care and create your own. The various Chao which hatch have profound usefulness in combat. Equipping a fighting character with a Chao confers a variety of different combat advantages, that depends on the Chao you use.
A list of Chao and their abilities:

Zousar: Increases the team’s chances to ambush the other team.
Wisps
Introduced in Sonic Colors, the Wisps are a diminutive, yet powerful alien species from Planet Wisp, although they can be found on many other planets across the universe. During the plot of Colors, Eggman enslaved various Wisps across the galaxy, only for Sonic himself to save all of them. After Colors, some Wisps left to return to their home planet, however, some of them decided to stay at the hedgehog’s planet, to help him whenever Sonic needs their help. There are numerous breeds of Wisps, each with its own special ability. When a Wisp enters a person, they bestow upon them a certain Color Power that grant them new and powerful abilities, but only if that person is someone they can trust, which in Sonic’s case, they definitely do.
The Color Powers consist of:
Black Bomb: Using the power of a Black Wisp, Sonic becomes a living and incredibly dense bomb. He is then able to roll over enemies or induce widespread explosions by detonating himself without causing self-harm, which can grow in size and power depending on how many enemies he's trampled or destroyed.
Blue Cube: Using the power of a Blue Wisp, Sonic transforms into a perfectly shaped blue cube. When transformed into the Blue Cube, he can emit destructive shockwaves by slamming into the ground that spread out for a sizable distance in all directions.
Crimson Eagle: Using the power of a Crimson Wisp, Sonic turns into a crimson-colored eagle-like figure. As the Crimson Eagle, he is able to achieve flight and soar through the air unhindered as well as being capable of performing a dash attack.
Cyan Laser: Using the power of a Cyan Wisp, Sonic transforms into a cyan laser beam. As the Cyan Laser, he gains the same properties as that of a real laser, allowing him to move as a living beam of light. When hitting any surfaces as the Cyan Laser, he can bounce off them as if they were reflective surfaces. When hitting enemies, it causes great damage.
Green Hover: Using the power of a Green Wisp, Sonic turns into a green hovercraft. As the Green Hover, he gains the power of flight, allowing him to fly leisurely through midair and deal damage to enemies on contact while transformed.
Gray Quake: Using the power of a Gray Wisp, Sonic transforms into a gray iron ball with yellow eyes. As the Gray Quake, his body density is greatly increased, making him so heavy that jumping or falling down on the ground can create destructive shockwaves. The Gray Quake also possesses some form of adhesive properties, allowing Sonic to scale walls despite his weight in this form.
Indigo Asteroid: Using the power of an Indigo Wisp, Sonic turns into an orb-shaped body with striped indigo skin and a matching planetary ring encircling his middle. As the Indigo Asteroid, Sonic essentially becomes a miniature planet with a strong gravitational field. As such, he is capable of creating a powerful gravitational pull around himself that's strong enough to yank surrounding objects and enemies into himself, subsequently transmuting the captured matter into life-less material for his ring system. Additionally, the gathered matter can be used to empower the gravitational pull. The Indigo Asteroid also grants users the ability to levitate through midair.
Ivory Lightning: Using the power of an Ivory Wisp, Sonic transforms into a living, straw-colored lightning bolt. As the Ivory Lightning, Sonic gains the same properties as that of a real lightning bolt. Associated with this form, he can move at lightning-fast speeds and with acrobatic movements as living electricity. He can also obtain electrokinetic abilities in this form, giving him the ability to either form threads of electricity that he can use to either electrocute enemies or connect himself to targets as tethers.
Jade Ghost: As the Jade Ghost, Sonic is able to turn himself invisible and enables him to move around without being visibly detected by opponents. The Jade Ghost also makes him intangible, thus allowing him to pass through obstacles and avoid unwanted attacks. In addition, the Jade Ghost allows Sonic to hover slightly above ground when using its power. It can even render Sonic intangible to those with Non-Physical Interaction.
Magenta Rhythm: Using the power of a Magenta Wisp, Sonic turns into a large magenta-colored eighth note. When in this form, he is able to bounce on air, allowing him to move through mid-air in semi-flight.
Orange Rocket: Using the power of an Orange Wisp, Sonic turns into a stubby orange rocket with six fins arranged in a regular hexagon on the rear. As the Orange Rocket, he can create powerful jet propulsion from his back to launch themselves forward through midair at staggering speeds that also damages anything caught in his way.
Pink Spikes: Using the power of a Pink Wisp, Sonic turns into a hot pink spiky ball. As the Pink Spikes, he gains long, razor-sharp and extremely durable spikes on his body. By inserting these spikes into a surface, he can stick perfectly firm to it that allows him to climb up walls and along ceilings. The spikes can also be used offensively by using them to pierce opponents. It can also be used to augment his signature Spin Dash, making it much more powerful than normal.
Purple Frenzy: Using the power of a Purple Wisp, Sonic turns into a flowing purple, demonic-looking chomper that constantly gives off a dark and thick aura. As the Purple Frenzy, he gains a powerful jaw that can chew and consume any matter he bites off and add it to his own mass, allowing the Purple Frenzy to grow larger for each bite until reaching maximum size. When reaching maximum size, the Purple Frenzy also gains a suction breath that lets Sonic suck in smaller objects that are neither too heavy nor rooted to the ground.
Red Burst: Using the power of a Red Wisp, Sonic turns into a red fireball that constantly gives off an aura of flames. As the Red Burst, Sonic obtains pyrokinetic abilities. He is able to form a shield of flames around himself that instantly incinerates anything it touches, and he can create explosions of fire by combusting into flames without inflicting harm on himself. These explosions can be channeled to shoot Sonic higher into the air or be charged up to trigger large-scale and powerful explosions that destroy nearly anything within its range. In addition, Sonic's speed increases while using Red Burst.
Violet Void: Using the power of a Violet Wisp, Sonic turns into a fast-moving, ghastly and smoky black orb with violet outlines. As the Violet Void, Sonic essentially becomes a living black hole and can warp space and time to draw objects into himself from a distance and make them vanish without a trace. Because of the Violet Void smoke-like makeup, Sonic is granted a degree of intangibility, allowing him to pass through obstacles unharmed. As the Violet Void, Sonic is also capable of flight through mid-air. Like the Purple Frenzy, the Violet Void can add the mass of the objects they draw into itself, allowing Sonic to grow larger the more he consumes until he reaches maximum size. Also, the more the Violet Void increases in size, the stronger its suction ability becomes, enabling Sonic to draw in bigger and heavier objects from greater distances. The Violet Void can draw in objects the size of the Frigate Skullian at maximum size, a massive aircraft.
Yellow Drill: Using the power of a Yellow Wisp, Sonic turns into a yellow spiral drill. As the Yellow Drill, Sonic can burrow and tunnel underground at remarkably fast speeds. This can also be applied in underwater environments, allowing Sonic to move as a living torpedo.
Final Color Blaster
Also referred to as Unlimited Colors. All the Wisps gather together and use their combined Hyper Go-On (in conjunction with Sonic's Homing Attack) in one vibrant and powerful attack.
Abilities and Techniques
Goku
Saiyan Physiology
The physiology of a Saiyan, an aggressive warrior race of conquerors. Saiyans have the natural ability to control ki and to fly, likely the origin of Goku's incredible skill when it comes to the usage and control of ki. Additionally, while his lifespan is comparable to that of a human, Goku will remain at his peak strength for much longer. One of the most powerful abilities of a Saiyan is their ability to grow stronger and stronger through combat, allowing Goku to constantly push his limits during a fight and rise to far higher and far higher peaks in power. This ability grants a substantial boost in power when Goku is badly injured, allowing him to reach a whole new level of power once he recovers.
Ki Manipulation
Ki is a form of energy that courses through the body of every living being. With proper training, one is capable of controlling their own ki, using it for a variety of reasons, like amplifying their own physical strength, speed, durability, and utilizing ki techniques, such as flight, shooting energy blasts, sensing the ki of others, create barriers, lift objects and people with telekinesis, communicate with others via telepathy, read minds, and even heal. Although training can increase an user's ki reserves exponentially, it is ultimately a limited energy supply (unless you're an android) and using it for long enough will leave you without any to spare, incapable of using any ki-derived techniques. Ki can also be drained in other ways, like by specific energy draining abilities, or by dealing enough damage to the user. Goku can use Ki to also use a variety of special techniques, such as:
Kamehameha
Goku's famous signature technique, which he learned after witnessing Master Roshi use it to extinguish the flames on Fire Mountain, successfully replicating it not long later on his first try. It’s a devastating beam of Ki that he unleashes onto foes. By gathering energy into his cupped hands and firing it forward, he releases a blue wave to attack from upclose or afar. This powerful technique has a number of variations:
Super Kamehameha: A far more powerful variant of the Kamehameha when Goku charges more Ki into the attack. It has been potent enough to knock out opponents instantly and even shatter the moon.
True Kamehameha: A powerful Kamehameha version utilized by Super Saiyan 3.
Reverse Kamehameha: In case Goku isn't able to fly at the moment, he can fire his beam at the ground and use it for propulsion.
Bending Kamehameha: If someone dodges the attack, Goku can make the Kamehameha bend to different directions.
Kamehameha Barrage: A variation on which Goku can repeatedly shoot Kamehamehas
Feet Kamehameha: Uses Kamehameha with his feet to launch himself.
Limitbreaker Kamehameha: An amped Kamehameha used by Goku in his Super Saiyan God form.
X10 Kamehameha: A powerful Kamehameha utilized by Super Saiyan 4 Goku.
Burst Kamehameha: A version of Kamehameha much quicker than the average, used if opponents are too close.
Double Kamehameha: Two Kamehamehas launched at once.
God Kamehameha: A version of the Kamehameha with God Ki.
Transcendent God Kamehameha: A more powerful version of the God Kamehameha.
Instant Kamehameha: Goku uses Instant Transmission to teleport just before firing the attack, appearing right in front of his opponents and giving them no time to dodge. As for the Tournament of Power, Goku has once again used this technique in a new way, as a barrier against other attacks.
Kiai
The ability to project an invisible burst of force with Ki, which Goku can perform with his hands and even with a glare. Kiai also has two variations, one being the Spirit Shot, in which Goku charges energy and send it out, causing shockwaves in both sides of his body, and Soaring Fist, in which he shoots ki mixed with air like an energy beam from his fists, powerful enough to even deflect projectiles.
Taiyoken
Also known as Solar Flare, when bringing his hands up to his face, Goku can create a bright flash of light that can blind opponents.
Genkidama
Goku’s ultimate attack taught by King Kai. By accumulating energy from the surrounding area, whether it be from living organisms or nature, Goku can power up a technique known as the Spirit Bomb. This attack is an incredibly powerful energy sphere, capable of overpowering foes noticeably stronger than Goku depending on how long Goku gains energy. He can gather energy from nearby planets, suns, and even across the entire mortal universe. Additionally, if Goku wants to, he can absorb the accumulated energy for a gigantic power up rather than an all out attack. While it’s extremely powerful, it takes a very long time to charge and is therefore very difficult to use, though the charge time can be sped up by gathering energy from those who willingly and knowingly provide it.
Kienzan
A technique invented by Goku’s best pal, Krillin, Goku can compress his Ki into a sharp disk that can cut through those with dramatically higher power levels. There’s also the Hexa Blade variation, which can split apart into numerous smaller Disks, often used for more stealthy or surprise maneuvers.
Multiform Technique
A technique Goku learned from Tien where he evenly splits his power amongst clones to gain a number advantage over his opponent. Goku can create up to seven, and interestingly does not seem to have to split his energy in order to create the multiform clones.
Dragon FIst
Goku can create a golden Ki dragon in order to dramatically power up an individual punch, often strong enough to pierce right through those of relative strength.
God Bind
Goku can use his Ki to trap an opponent, acting as a form of telekinesis, allowing him to move them as he pleases.
Kaio-ken
A technique developed by King Kai and taught to Goku during his time training on his planet. It greatly increases Goku's ki for just a moment, boosting his strength and speed significantly for that time. However, this heavily strains his body, and if he overuses it, it will leave him in intense pain all over his body, leaving him incapable of moving without causing himself further pain. Initially, the strongest Kaio-ken Goku can utilize is x4, but by the time of the Frieza Saga, he has mastered its use, allowing him to push it to his maximum of x20, and in movies, he could even increase to x100. He can also use the technique in other forms, like the Super Saiyan and the Super Saiyan God forms.
God Ki
Once Goku obtained Super Saiyan God through the ritual, it gave him a new type of Ki. This God Ki made Goku learn several abilities with divine energy, such as healing fatal wounds, restarting his heart after it had been crushed, extrasensory perception, and manipulate/destroy pocket dimensions.
Instant Transmission
Through the use of Ki control, Goku can utilize the technique known as Instant Transmission. With it, Goku can teleport to any location he desires after putting two fingers to his head, as long as he senses a powerful enough Ki signature there. Additionally, Goku has shown to be able to warp to any place he himself can currently see without having to do any special hand sign, like when he instantly warped in front of Cell to perform a surprise Kamehameha.
Goku uses Instant Transmission to teleport instantly between distances ranging from a few meters to light years away. While he often struggles to lock onto an unknown Ki signature when they're more than a galaxy away, a strong enough energy or an energy he recognizes can allow him to. However, without any energy to detect, Goku can not utilize the technique.
In the Toei continuity, several guides clarify that Instant Transmission involves the user teleporting to a “teleportation zone” that transcends time itself to reach their destination. This is shown in Return of Cooler and Broly: The Legendary Super Saiyan.
Minor Precognition
During his fight against Hit, Goku was capable of seeing a few seconds into the future to predict Hit's attack. The dub corroborates it being more than simple analytical prediction.
Mafuba
A sealing technique taught to Goku by Roshi. By telekinetically grabbing the opponent, Goku can nullify their power and seal them in a container as long as said container has the proper talisman. Once trapped, the victim is subject to terrible horrors for all of eternity, having their power nullified and being prohibited from action. While Goku forgot the seal in the anime, it was actually Roshi who forgot it in the manga, and Goku has shown to be perfectly capable of pulling off the move himself when he trained by using it on Turtle and pulled it off against Zamasu in the manga.
Hakai
A technique Goku learned by watching the God of Destruction, Beerus. The attack can manifest as either large energy attacks, or make instant contact with what the user wants to have destroyed. Upon the technique making contact with the opponent, they will be completely and absolutely wiped from existence. All versions of them will be wiped from all timelines unless they are acausal, their body will be completely erased, and their soul will also be targeted and destroyed.
Resistances
(nice “complex hax ability” you fucking dipshit now check this out)
Extreme Temperatures: Vegeta was able to withstand his body being covered by Absolute Zero temperatures without issue, and Goku has survived fighting Broly in lava and being near the sun before no problem. Ki in general has also been shown to vaporize and atomize things, implying high temperatures.
Empathy Manipulation: Goku was unaffected by Ribrianne’s aroma, which normally distracts targets by making them filled with love.
Extrasensory Perception: Those with God Ki, such as Goku, cannot be sensed by those with the ability to sense life energy.
Mental Manipulation: Saiyans like Vegeta have resisted the mind control of magic users like Babidi, and Vegeta even let himself be taken under his control in the first place; the moment Vegeta felt like it, he broke out of that control.
Intangibility: When facing Hit a second time, Goku was able to counter Hit’s energy blasts by blocking them with his own Ki. Hit’s long ranged Ki attacks have shown the capability of phasing through surrounding objects and even their targets.
Hakai: On a few occasions, Goku has survived or resisted the Hakai, once even in his base form. Hakai erases the target’s physical body, destroys their soul, and even removes them from the time stream. So Goku would have resistance to Existence Erasure, Temporal Erasure, and Soul Manipulation.
Paralysis Inducement: Escaped Frieza’s Imprisonment Ball at the last moment.
Electricity Manipulation: Tanked Fusion Zamasu’s Lightning of Absolution.
Radiation: Can fight in the Earth’s upper atmosphere, where radiations are exceedingly high.
Poison Manipulation: Goku’s supernatural will allowed him to survive the Water of the Gods.
Battlefield Removal: Numerous beings in Dragon Ball have broken out of alternate dimensions just by powering up, and Goku’s teleportation gives him a lot of range to return if he's sent too far.
Pressure Point Strikes: During his fight with Granolah, Goku was able to combat his pressure point fighting style by toughening certain parts of his body and moving his organs around.
Time Stop: Goku is above Jiren, who is so strong that his strength bypasses Hit’s time abilities, to the point where he can walk through time stops.
Information Analysis: Granolah could not find any weak points in Goku due to the properties of Ultra Instinct.
Gravity Manipulation: Goku was totally unaffected by Hearts’ Supergravity ability and he also broke out of Gas’s Gravity Spell with little issue.
Illusion Creation: Despite Moro’s illusions, Son Goku could sense where the real Moro was.
Age Manipulation: Super Saiyan 4 undoes Ultimate Shenron’s wish to turn Goku into a kid while he's in this state. Super Saiyan 4 does not automatically transform the user into an adult, as Beat and Note retained their normal child bodies in this form.
Spatial Manipulation: Can tank attacks from Janemba’s sword and Goku Black’s scythe, both of which could cut through space-time.
Transmutation: By using his ki, Trunks was capable of shielding himself from Dabura's stone spit.
Deconstruction: With his nullification technique, Goku stopped the effects of his shockwaves with Beerus from affecting Earth and himself.
Sonic
Spin Dash
Perhaps Sonic’s most iconic technique, the Spin Dash. Sonic curls into a ball and begins spinning rapidly from a stationary position to charge up, then launches forward with enhanced mobility. A few other instances show that Sonic doesn’t need to charge to perform the technique, and activate it just by running, like in Sonic Frontiers and Sonic Prime, for example. The Spin Dash also gives Sonic a considerable increase in speed, able to make Sonic go 346 times faster.
Spin Attack
While moving forward, Sonic is able to curl tightly into a defensive ball and roll along the ground to ram enemies as a concussive force or cutting disk.
Spin Jump
Sonic leaps into the air and proceeds to perform a Spin Attack, a technique that allows Sonic to attack a foe in quick succession, hit objects in a return-to-sender fashion, and deter charging opponents.
Flying Spin Attack: In contrast to the Spin Jump, Sonic can utilize this technique while already in a vulnerable position within mid-air.
Drop Dash
Sonic charges in mid-air, and when hitting the ground, he will release a quick Spin Dash and roll forward.
Insta-Shield
For an instant, Sonic creates a temporary shield around himself that can slash enemies within his range. This allows Sonic to attain simultaneous offense and defense, and allows him to bypass forcefields.
Super Peel Out
Sonic begins to move his legs in a pattern similar to the "infinity" symbol to build up speed, all while remaining stationary. After which, he rockets off with immensely increased speed and mobility, even better than the Spin Dash. This technique allowed Sonic to match Metal Sonic's V. Maximum Overdrive Attack, which is stated to increase Metal Sonic's speed four times over, meaning Sonic's Super Peel Out grants a similar increase.
Precognition
Sonic has a weird sixth sense from his innate senses, that makes him sneeze whenever there’s incoming danger. (You can barely see him sneezing in the Sonic CD intro!)
His quills can also identify and detect danger, and he can sense the attacks of his enemies right before they happen.
Elasticity
Sonic can repeatedly survive and recover from being either flattened or crushed flat.
Homing Attack
Sonic performs a mid-air Spin Dash that homes in on opponents, striking them with perfect aim. After hitting, the attack's force will cause Sonic to bounce off the target, allowing him to attack enemies again immediately afterward (potentially repeatedly) or attack other enemies in his nearby vicinity.
Focused Homing Attack: Sonic locks on up to six enemies at once and executes a far swifter and stronger version of the Homing Attack. This attack can be charged up to dish out attacks capable of quickly overwhelming beings with comparable durability to Sonic himself.
Sonic Style
Sonic's unique fighting stance, in which he specializes in a fluid, precise, and kinetic fighting style based on blitzing foes with a myriad of techniques that are based on all kinds of fighting styles ranging from Capoeira, to Kickboxing, to straight up MMA techniques, along with Sonic's personal fighting style based on his species' ability to curl into a ball. He also boasts great acrobatic skills and agility, along with enhanced reflexes that enable him to evade incoming hindrances with precise and delicate movements, as well as detect attacks beyond his field of vision.
Back Step
Sonic does a swift backflip, which allows him to quickly backtrack or reposition himself better within a fight.
Blue Tornado
Sonic uses the Spin Dash to encircle around opponents through midair while leaving a blue trail. The resulting slipstream creates a tornado effect that forms a blue cyclonic vortex of air around the opponent. This can yank the opponents off their feet and fling them into the air, disorient enemies, or blow away their weaponry or equipment.
Bound Jump
In mid-air, Sonic curls into a ball and performs the Spin Attack straight downwards to slam down on any target below him. If he impacts the ground, Sonic will be propelled back into the air with enhanced jumping height.
Boost
Sonic coats himself in a blue aura and rockets forward at top speed, granting instant acceleration and turning him into a highly destructive projectile able to mow down anything in his path. According to calculations, Boost can amp Sonic’s speed to about 7.9 times faster.
Air Boost
An airborne variation of the Boost, used to increase the Sonic's speed in midair and soar through the sky. Sonic's use for this technique can range from quick evasion away from an enemy, to surfing through the air for long distances, canceling attacks before they strike a target, and more.
Power Boost
When Sonic enables his Boost while at maximum Ring capacity, he will emit blue lightning around him while his speed is increased even further. When Sonic loses his Rings, his Boost will be reverted to normal once more.
Foot Sweep
Sonic drops to the ground, balances on one hand, and then sweeps one of his legs around in a 360 degree circle that resembles break-dancing, damaging anything he comes into contact with.
Grand Slam
A powerful Spin Attack with a follow-up kick to launch the enemy away.
Humming Top
Sonic thrusts his body forward through midair while spinning and sticking his legs outward to attack foes, thereby increasing his horizontal speed to gain distance.
Light Speed Dash
As its name suggests, the Light Speed Dash is a maneuver that allows the Blue Blur to momentarily travel at an incredible speeds matching the speed of light. When used, it will allow Sonic to travel across a path of Rings, be straight or curved. However, the Light Speed Dash only functions when the Rings are near each other or have not been thrown by Sonic or an enemy. Also, when using this move, the user will be left vulnerable to attacks, even if in some games the Light Speed Dash tends to make the user much less of an open target. If the character gets hurt while using the Light Speed Dash, the move will be canceled out.
Light Speed Attack
Sonic harnesses his conserved energies and charges up in a manner nigh-akin to the Spin Dash. The difference being that while charging, light orbs will encircle Sonic's body and damage enemies upon contact, discouraging interruption of the technique. Once finished, Sonic excitedly utters "Ready!" and takes on a cyan hue, before rocketing off at high speeds to unleash a far faster and stronger Homing Attack. This technique automatically targets every enemy in the vicinity upon execution, allowing Sonic to pull off a rapid onslaught of Homing Attacks to strike all enemies in range.
Stomp
While in the air, Sonic rockets directly downward, descending in a crouching position. Upon landing, he'll release a destructive shock-wave which damages the nearby surroundings and enemies.
Somersault
Sonic flips his body and attacks with his legs to destroy generally wooden boxes.
Fire Somersault: A variation of the somersault, imbuing Sonic's kicks with intense flames when he has the Flame Ring equipped.
Skid Attack: Sonic performs a somersault before sliding along the ground while striking his enemy with his feet first before coming to a halt. The range of this attack can be increased further by performing it while running at high speeds.
Somersault Kick: Sonic kicks out with his leg while in midair, releasing a thin blue wave of unknown properties as a projectile that can strike enemies from afar. Upon impacting a foe, it induces an affect akin to dizziness and leaves enemies to his mercy.
Sonic Wind
Sonic raises his fist to generate a small cyclone made of sharp, sky blue winds, which ensnare his opponent to deal damage.
Time Stop
Sonic raises his right fist, using some sort of mysterious power that briefly turns all colors on the screen to negative and the opponents’ time will be stopped for ten seconds.
Windmill
While in mid-air, Sonic utilizes break dance moves to execute a 360-degree spin kick to strike opponents by sticking out one leg.
Sonic Battle Moveset
Sonic's moveset in Sonic Battle:
Move
Dashing Skill: A technique used for quick movement in any direction, Sonic Leap allows him to do so in a quick, explosive jump forward.
Jumping Skill: Sonic's jumping skill, Sonic Jump, allows the blue hedgehog to convert his speed to air time.
Air Action: Sonic is able to increase his torque by spinning through the air with Sonic Ballet.
Guard Skill: Using Sonic Guard, Sonic utilizes his own speed to block attacks.
Heal Skill: With Sonic Heal, the hedgehog heals any damage received by vibrating his molecules at high speeds.
Attack
Heavy Attack: A skill specialized in knocking the opponent a way, which Sonic uses to break dance moves to knock the opponent away with Sonic Flare.
Upper Attack: A skill specialized in knocking the opponent upwards, Sonic Up Draft sees the hedgehog performing a somersault kick to launch an opponent into the air.
Dash Attack: Sonic performs Windmill, an attack in the form of a spinning kick using dance moves while using his Dashing Skill.
Air Attack: While in the air, Sonic performs the Sonic Rocket to launch a diagonal yet powerful kick in midair.
Pursuit Attack: Often preceded by Sonic launching himself in a diagonal jump towards his opponent in the air (though it can be performed on a grounded target), Sonic Eagle is a downwards axe kick to strike the opponent.
Ground Shot: Sonic Wave serves as a longer-range means of attack, a shockwave created by Sonic through a powerful High Speed Spin.
Air Shot: A longer-ranged attack while in the air, Sonic Storm sees Sonic send out a shockwave akin to when he performs the Sonic Wave. It requires less time to prepare compared to its grounded counterpart.
Ground Power: A technique meant to deal exceptional damage while close to an enemy, the Sonic Drive sees the blue hedgehog pull out a Ring. When he throws it, Sonic has the option to home in on it by following up with a Spin Attack.
Air Power: Meant to deal exceptional damage while close to an enemy in the air, Sonic Meteor allows him to perform a Spin Attack downwards which bounces him off of the ground.
Ground Trap: Sonic's trap, the Sonic Cracker, allows him to plant a bomb that burrows itself into the ground and becomes undetectable.
Air Trap: The S. Air Cracker lets Sonic toss a landmine directly underneath him.
Others
Strength Support: Strength Support 8 passively increases Sonic's defense, making him more resilient to attacks.
Attack Support: Attack Support 6 passively increases Sonic's attack power, making his blows stronger.
Support of Others: Acceleration Up Lv 2 gives Sonic increased acceleration, allowing him to reach high speeds faster.
Ichikoro Gauge
Upon storing enough energy, Sonic’s next attack can be fueled by the power of Ichikoro, acting as a one-hit kill against comparable foes.
Parry
While guarding, Sonic automatically parries attacks that strike him and deflects them without harm. A successful parry will slow things to a crawl without affecting Sonic himself, allowing more leeway for him to react.
Cyloop
Leaving a light trail in his wake, enclosing it will result in various possible effects taking place. This ranges from launching several enemies into the air at once to freely creating Rings and giving himself an unending amount of Boost for several minutes. The Cyloop is also a great tool of shattering defenses that are otherwise impervious to attacks. Sonic can also use Cyloop as a way of grasping things without making physical contact with them.
Quick Cyloop
This variant allows Sonic to use the move much more quickly, making it even more difficult to react and avoid it.
Cross Slash
Sonic moves around the enemy in an arc, letting loose a stream of shockwaves as he hovers through the air.
Homing Shot
Sonic launches a volley of energy spheres that home in on his opponent.
Phantom Rush
With a maxed-out combo meter, Sonic enters this state. His attacks are 1.2x stronger and he attacks so quickly that it appears as if four or more of him are attacking at once. This lasts indefinitely, so long as Sonic can keep his combo meter running.
Recovery Smash
After being thrown back by an attack, Sonic can recover before he hits the ground to lead with a fierce counterattack.
Sonic Boom
(Not to be confused with Sonic Boom, the song, and Sonic Boom, the series).
A high-speed kick which unleashes a flurry of powerful shockwaves at the enemy, which Sonic can aim at other enemies within the same barrage while remaining stationary.
Sonic Boom
(Another one??? They need to be more creative when naming stuff for him, lmao)
Sonic’s Signature Move in Sonic Rivals. When executing Sonic Boom, Sonic jumps into the air shouting "Sonic Boom", while drawing up wind around him, before using it to launch himself forward with a burst of speed so great that it breaks the sound barrier. Sonic will then fall back on the ground and start running normally with streams of air released in his wake. While active, the Sonic Boom gives Sonic increased speed and invulnerability, allowing him to damage enemies and opponents simply by running into them.
Spin Slash
Sonic repeatedly encircles an area directly in front of his enemy with a multi-hit spinning attack for repeated damage.
Wild Rush
With this attack, Sonic distances himself from the enemy before zigzagging through the air to striking his opponent and allowing for a continued assault afterwards.
Dimensional Travel
Sonic has a few moments where he was shown capable of traveling through dimensions. It was noted that he was able to go back to his world from the Arabian Night and World of Camelot alternate realities by “running endlessly”, and he was shown traveling to Special Stages, which are stated to be other dimensions, by simply just running.
After-Images Creation
Sonic can create after images by going really fast! Neat.
Limited Void, Life, and Space-Time Manipulation
Sonic can do this through his running. It’s noted by Classic Tails that when the Time Eater travels through time, it tears space apart and results in said locations being left as a void that leaves them "empty and dead". As stated by Modern Tails, both Sonics are able to accelerate through time to repair space as a consequence of their running; something he describes as “returning color and life”. Additionally, in the JP script, the Sonics are noted to be restoring the flow of time by running.
Skills
Set of skills that can be used in Sonic Generations, with the most notable being:
Invincible Start: Starts the stage with invincibility, lasts 20 seconds.
Power Sneakers: Increases Sonic’s speed for a small amount of seconds.
Long Spin Dash: Makes Sonic’s Spin Dash go way further.
Breath Holder: Makes Sonic stay underwater longer.
Speed Up: Increases Sonic’s speed
Ring Time: Turns enemies into Rings.
Hercules Muscles: Increases Sonic’s strength.
Power Stomp: When doing a Stomp, Sonic creates an even more powerful shockwave.
Acceleration: Increases speed when Sonic starts running.
Serial Homing: Makes Homing Attack go faster.
Time Brake: Slows down time.
Last Chance: Gives Sonic one more life when he is out of them.
Soul Gauge
The Soul Gauge is a skill Sonic acquired during his adventures throughout the Storybook Era, and is ultimately utilized for a myriad of special abilities that Sonic is incapable of doing without it. This entails both offensive and defensive capabilities, be it from enhancing his attacks or allowing him to move at high speeds near-instantaneously. It runs off of Soul Gauge energy, which is also referred to as Soul and implies that the energy comes from Sonic's very soul itself. He can get this energy from attacking enemies, defeating them, and through several other means.
Soul Armor: Sonic loses less Soul Energy when he gets hit.
Soul Assimilator: Simply by running, Sonic's Soul Gauge will begin to refill.
Soul Barrier: Upon taking damage, Sonic is given Soul Energy that is put into his Soul Gauge.
Soul Resurrection: So long as he has enough, Sonic uses the energy from his Soul Gauge to resurrect within the midst of combat.
Speed Break
The first of two primary functions of the Soul Surge. Sonic accelerates to speeds surpassing what he can achieve normally, leaving streaks of fire in his slipstream. While active, Sonic is invulnerable and can damage enemies and obstacles by crashing into them.
Time Break
The second of two primary functions of the Soul Surge. Sonic slows down the flow of time, bringing his surroundings and opponents to a nigh-halt and leaving them to his mercy. Contrary to popular belief, this technique does not actually slow down Sonic himself outside of gameplay.
Chaos Control
Chaos Control is a chaos power that allows the user to warp time and space with the mystical Chaos Emeralds. While first introduced as a way to teleport over large distances, Chaos Control has since evolved into an overall term for any supernatural reality manipulation conducted through the Chaos Emeralds, allowing incredible feats.
As mentioned above, with a Chaos Emerald in hand, Sonic is capable of utilizing Chaos Control to manipulate the fabric of time and space. He can use this to teleport himself as well as other people and objects, manipulate time by slowing or stopping it, perform inter-dimensional or time travel, distort space-time, and so on. It can even reality warp and control the fabric of the universe or seal opponents in other dimensions. Sonic was so efficient in the use of the technique that he was able to replicate it with a Fake Emerald, and could even mimic the technique out of Shadow, which is something Shadow said was impossible to happen.
THE YELL
Sonic can STUN OTHERS BY YELLING!!!! Awesome.
Resistances
Cosmic Radiations: Can easily resist the vacuum of space in many games.
Extreme Heat: Not only is he unfazed with the volcanic temperatures of Lava Reef Zone, but he can survive the heat of falling directly into a star.
Ice Manipulation: Can break out of ice after being frozen solid.
Poisons, Chemical Products, and Acid Manipulation: Can travel through the most dangerous areas of Chemical Plant Zone without any trouble, and could also withstand the acid of poison frogs and Slime Djinns with no negative side effects.
Corrosion Manipulation: Can interact and fight with Void, whose darkness was corroding away the life within the Nature Zone before it was restored.
Curse Manipulation: As seen in the picture above, said “no” to being cursed. Kinda funny.
Pseudo-Resistance to Battlefield Removal (BFR): Simply having a Chaos Emerald allows Sonic to be warped out of the Special Stage, which resides in a different universe as a trap.
Transmutation: Can withstand the effects of the Blue Wisp, who can turn blue cubes into blue coins, and vice versa. Could also resist the Chaotix Recital, which converts enemies into Rings.
Time and Age Manipulation: Sonic can normally move after he activates a Time Switch, which freezes enemies in place and stops the in-game counter. Sonic can also traverse the Special Stages of the Time Stones, which alter and remove time from their stages. The mysterious Time Stones are also said to be able to turn a desert into a jungle, and a polluted lake into a beautiful lake by crossing through time.
Reality Warping: Remained unaffected when Alf Layla-Wa Layla warped the Arabian Nights reality into a distorted void that would've allowed him to alter it as he wished (in the Alf Layla wa-Layla Appears part of the script). When using Chaos Control, Shadow was unaffected by the shattering and warping of reality caused by the destruction of the Paradox Prism.
Spatial Manipulation: Can withstand attacks from Chaos Magic, which hits opponents with distorted space.
Petrification/Durability Lowering: Can withstands the effects of the Blue Wisp, which is capable of encasing foes in a blue cube and lowering their durability to the point they can be shattered in one hit. Can also break free from being turned to stone by the Gargoyle Djinn.
Void Manipulation and Existence Erasure: When the Time Eater erased history and left everything as a colorless void known as White Space, it was specifically noted that White Space needed Classic and Modern Sonic's speed to restore its flow of time to restore their friends.
Sealing: Noted by Sage to have breached and escaped from Cyber Space repeatedly. Even The End considered Sonic escaping Cyber Space through his own power as doing the impossible
Causality Manipulation (debatably): Upon Sage witnessing Sonic fighting against his corruption while scaling the towers of Rhea Island, who often performed assessments on his performance throughout his journey through calculations that she can perform on the scale of millions, alluded to his defiance as an attempt to transcend causality.
Madness Manipulation: Can withstand the power and presence of the World Rings, which were what likely drove the genies of the Arabian Nights mad (in Enemy Stronghold).
Black Holes/Gravity Manipulation: Can survive in close proximity to black holes and resist their gravitational pull.
Sound and Electricity Manipulation: Can withstand the effects of Ivory and Magenta Wisps. Additionally, tanked being electrocuted in water by Surge’s lightning while she was amped by a Hyper Go-On.
Limited Soul Manipulation: Sonic was able to mildly resist Ifrit's soul binding, although Sonic was eventually taken over.
Biological & Disease Manipulation, Greater Transmutation: His biometrics allow him fight off the effects of the Metal Virus, which possesses mutagenic properties that transmutes organic life forms into a metal-like substance
Law, Fate, and Plot Manipulation: Despite being said to have been added to the story of the Arabian Nights, as well as being confirmed by the end of Secret Rings, Sonic ultimately defeated Erazor Djinn despite being implied to be the sacrifice that would be key to controlling the World Rings. In Sonic and the Black Knight, Sonic defied the grim fate that was said to await him by King Solomon. Those who are written into the story have it become their destiny, being a fundamental principle that the Arabian Nights' reality functions on.
Arguably Dream & Conceptual Manipulation: Void is said to possess a power of darkness that can bring an end to Maginaryworld, with Void himself being referred to as said darkness directly on multiple occasions while directly stating he is the dreams themselves, who Sonic can withstand attacks from.
Corruption and Conceptual Mind Manipulation: Sonic was uninfluenced by Dark Gaia's influence because he is too strong to lose himself, with Dark Gaia's creatures being manifestations of people's ambient emotions.
Information Manipulation and Cyber Corruption: Sage stated Sonic was enduring cyber corruption better than she calculated after he had already absorbed extensive amounts of cyber corruption upon releasing his friends from their Cyber Cages, even as she had been tracking its effects on him.
Interdimensional BFR, Paralysis Inducement, Memory Manipulation, Perception Manipulation and Power Nullification: Gained control over his Cyber Corruption to the point that he no longer felt its physical detriment, which has shown such effects
Forms
Goku
Oozaru
When Goku looks at the full moon, he transforms into a giant ape, which can only be stopped via destroying the moon or cutting off his tail. During the events of the Dragon Ball GT however, Goku turned into a Golden Great Ape instead. It is unluckily a full moon would ever make Goku transform into either of these forms however, due to him having mastered…
Super Saiyan forms
False Super Saiyan
When pushed into a corner by Lord Slug, Son Goku accessed the power of a Super Saiyan a bit too early, creating an incomplete but still powerful variation of the form. Fun fact, this was created because Toriyama hadn't decided on the design for Super Saiyan yet. It is because of that that the form does not actually have an official name, and has been dubbed by the fans as “False Super Saiyan”.
Super Saiyan
Awakened by rage and only appearing every one thousand years (initially), the legendary Saiyan form of legend was thought to be an impossible hurdle for any warrior to reach. However, Goku is no ordinary warrior, and due to the death of his close friend Krillin, Goku unleashed the most iconic transformation in fiction: the Super Saiyan. The form offers a massive enhancement to all stats (by fifty times to be specific) similar to Kaioken, letting Goku massively rise in power. On top of that, it enhances the user’s senses.
Super Saiyan Grades
There exists multiple different evolutions or “grades” of the original Super Saiyan form. Grade 2 provides a stat increase, while Grade 3 provides a further increase in power at the cost of a speed decrease. Goku never bothered mastering either of these though, due to him instead discovering Grade 4. Grade 4 is stronger than Grade 3 and faster than 2, while having 0 stamina drain compared to his base form and looking exactly like his normal Super Saiyan form. After the Cell Saga, Super Saiyan Grade 4 is the variant of the normal Super Saiyan form Goku always uses.
Super Saiyan 2
An advanced state of Super Saiyan. His form doubles Goku’s power as a Super Saiyan, multiplying his base stats a hundred times. However, while it's stronger, the stamina drain returns.
Super Saiyan 3
Achieved during his training in Heaven, Goku used this form to battle Majin Buu. His power quadruples compared to Super Saiyan 2 (meaning a 400 times multiplier to his base stats), but at the cost of a severe stamina drain. It’s difficult for Goku to even regain enough energy to continue fighting in this form. For these reasons, Super Saiyan 2 and 3 are rarely used by Goku, typically used in short bursts in order to test his opponent's strength.
Super Saiyan 4
Originating from a dramatically different line of transformations, Goku’s Great Ape power and Super Saiyan power are combined and evolved into this animalistic state of being. Super Saiyan 4 is dramatically stronger than Super Saiyan 3, capable of completely reversing a stomp against Baby Vegeta, who had transformed twice before their rematch. However, while Goku keeps his logical mind in this state, he also becomes more vicious, occasionally resulting in somewhat reckless decisions.
Super Saiyan God forms
Super Saiyan God
“We’ve been here going about our peaceful lives… for the most part…”
A divine transformation that far surpasses the regular numbered Super Saiyan transformations, achieved through a ritual involving six righteous Saiyans, or through rigorous divine training. Goku reached this form with the help of his family and friends so that he could oppose the God of Destruction Beerus and stop him from destroying Earth. In this form, Goku gains divine ki and cannot be sensed by mortals. After achieving this form, Goku can transform into it whenever he wishes.
Super Saiyan Blue
“This is a Saiyan with the power of a Super Saiyan God as a Super Saiyan.”
After accessing Super Saiyan God’s power in his base form and transforming into a Super Saiyan, Goku becomes a Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan, which later renamed Super Saiyan Blue, due to some reasons. Originally it wasn't stable, resulting in massive stamina loss in short periods of time. The issue was big enough that both Goku and Vegeta could originally only result in 10%, and even that was draining. However, eventually, Goku completed the form, which made him retain all the excess ki he had inside his body, becoming an extremely efficient form. Goku also knows a way to further enhance his strength by drawing power from his reserves, at the cost of damaging his own body. This process has been compared to the Kaio-ken.
Ultra Instinct
"I think I'm finally getting the hang of this power now."
A power that originated with the angels, this is easily Goku’s most powerful traditional form. His first use of this form was through Ultra Instinct Sign, which made him react to attacks instantaneously through his body’s natural instincts, though he struggled to apply this to his offensive power. However, by the end of the Tournament of Power, Goku overcame that weakness and unlocked the improved silver haired version of Ultra Instinct, which aided in the defeat of Universe 11’s Jiren.
This form is the pinnacle of Goku’s combat skill and experience, allowing him to pull off complex combat maneuvers and strategies without wasting a single unit of time thinking about it, since those actions are instead done through sheer instinct. The form is able to compensate for large gaps in power and speed due to how effective its instinctive reactions are, and the reliance on Instinct also means reading Goku’s movements or thoughts becomes pointless. He has slowly worked on improving the stamina problem, increasing the time limit from one minute to several. Additionally, Goku can apply the form’s instinctual benefits exclusively to his weaker forms, giving himself the incredible dodging and enhanced striking power without having to go all out.
To explain what this means, let's actually use some analogies. Essentially, think of Son Goku’s decades of combat history and experience as a catalog, or library, for him to pull moves, strategies, attacks, defenses, techniques, etc from. When fighting normally, Goku often relies on his reflexive reactions to choose a few go-tos for dealing with most situations. But occasionally, he will be pit against a more unique scenario in which he is forced to search through this library as quickly as possible to search for the best move to use. However, since there's just so much information, Goku usually is forced to compromise with a move that's simply good enough and might get the job done.
Meanwhile, with Ultra Instinct, Son Goku’s body and spirit immediately know which pages to pull from this massive library without him having to even think about it. For situations that he has already dealt with before, Goku no longer has to rely on his reflexes, and instead already has a move or strategy planned out before he himself even knows it, essentially reducing his response time to zero. And with more unique situations, Goku’s body essentially goes through this library in an instant, choosing the best possible plan of attack and turning it into a reflex instead of a thought. With Ultra Instinct, Goku can launch air projectiles at his opponents, and can create illusionary after images. His usage of telekinesis improves to such an extent that can turn rock formations to dust with a hand movement and he can stop Granolah in mid air. The durability of his energy barriers improves drastically, as they can now block out attacks from opponents far more powerful than him, like Gas. Goku can also create energy arms for longer reach. His mere punches can send shockwaves across the planet and he is also the master of surfing. The form’s aura can form a miniature galaxy. Ultra Instinct can move in frozen time and destroy a frozen time-space created by the former Supreme Kai of TIme, Aeos.
Furthermore, when Goku’s emotions are out of control, he can also enter True Ultra Instinct to make the most use out of his creative and emotional Saiyan instincts. In this state, Goku isn't as likely to rely on martial arts, but makes up for it with an absurdly unpredictable fighting style, taking hits similarly to Vegeta’s Ultra Ego, and dealing back the damage he takes. His full power though has still been regarded as his peak above True Ultra Instinct however, with it releasing a giant energy construct of Goku to fight. This energy construct can act independently of Goku, and fight even when Goku is knocked out or lacks control of his body. The Ki Avatar has enough power to wrestle with Moro using the Earth as his body, who was about to detonate with enough power to destroy the Milky Way Galaxy. Goku can also use the Avatar to throw people into space.
Sonic
Hyper Mode
Using the power of a Chaos Emerald, Sonic is surrounded in a sparkling aura that resembles the invincibility power-up. Entering this state vastly increases his speed and allows him to access special techniques only available to him in this state, like Emerald Dive, in which Sonic does a small uppercut before levitating into the air and diving straight into the opponent in a similar fashion to a torpedo. He can also use combos that end up with him instantly going to Hyper Mode.
Dark Sonic
When Sonic first crashed into the Metarex’s base, he felt uneasy about how many fake Chaos Emeralds there were. The dark energy of those Emeralds, when Sonic reacted to Chris and Cosmos trapped, is what intensified Sonic’s rage, thus turning him into his state, known as Dark Sonic.
Black Narcissus tried to knock him out with two Metarex, however, he destroyed both of them quickly, with little to no difficulty… and then Eggman showed up and Sonic detransformed, and then we never see this form ever again! Yup!
Fortunately, this was not forgotten by the community, and was used in several animations made by fans and AMVs. A lot of AMVs. He’s dark and cool, make a video of him with a Skillet song.
Excalibur Sonic
“What good is a world that goes on forever? That sounds pretty lame.”
The dark witch Merlina was completely outmatching the Knight of the Wind, even cutting Caliburn in half. However, Sonic did not give up, and proclaimed his intent of defeating Merlina. The Knights of the Round Table, in order to help Sonic, proceeded to send their sacred swords to Sonic: Arondight, Galatine and Laevatein. And together with Caliburn, they formed the legendary blade Excalibur, giving Sonic a badass anime transformation sequence and turning him into the mighty Excalibur Sonic.
In this armor, Sonic is notably stronger and more durable, and gains the capability of flying at incredible speeds, as well as greater reflexes. In addition, he retains his skills in swordsmanship, being capable of parrying Merlina’s sword strikes, and reflect her magic attacks. More to that, the Excalibur is so powerful that it’s said to have power to cut through any kind of material in its vicinity. With said power, Sonic was able to completely bypass the Dark Queen's defenses in a single blow, and completely nullify her magical barriers.
Darkspine Sonic
If this is your world, then it's a world that I don't want any part of!
After Erazor Djinn killed Shahra, he began to absorb the World Rings, and thus mutate himself into an incomplete Alf Layla Wa-Layla, due to the requirement to control these World Rings were not met. Alf Layla Wa-Layla explained that with this power, he was gonna remake the entire Arabian Nights. But, suddenly, three of the seven World Rings erupted out of his body: Purple, Red, and Green; Sadness, Rage/Anger and Hatred, respectively, and being absorbed by the Blue Blur himself, which after a painful transformation, he was now Darkspine Sonic.
In this form, Sonic gains a notable increase in his physical strength, being able to knock out Alf Layla’s strongest attacks in simple punches and kicks. He also has a notable talent in hand-to-hand combat. And of course, neat powers like Soul Refill, which refills his Soul Gauge when he curls similar to Spin Dash, and fire manipulation, being capable of creating concentrated flames that can either amplify the destructive potency of his attacks, or form powerful bursts of flames. But the one that shines most in his ability to warp reality itself. Due to being empowered by three of the seven World Rings, Darkspine Sonic possesses a degree of control over the fabric of reality. He can rewrite universes in his image and reverse the effects of reality warping on a universal scale.
Super Sonic
“The ultimate power is fueled by everyone's wish. Let me show you Super Sonic power!”
By absorbing the power of the seven Chaos Emeralds, the fastest thing alive becomes even faster and stronger than before, as his blue fur becomes gold, and his green eyes become red; this is Super Sonic.
This is by far his most iconic transformation, serving as Sonic’s triumph card to combat even the biggest of the threats, whether it be gigantic mechanical monsters, spacetime destroyers, forces of nature or even powerful deities. By naturally having the power of the Chaos Emeralds, he wields infinite and unlimited energy and all abilities the Chaos Emeralds could normally do, like reality warping and Chaos Control, at the cost of his stamina, which makes Sonic go back to his base form after a certain amount of time. But even then, Sonic was able to stay in his Super form for a few days without going back to his base form. This power let’s Super Sonic possess incredible abilities, such as:
Flight: He can fly. Very cool for fights, y’know?
Chaos Energy Manipulation: In his Super form, Sonic's Chaos Energy based powers are enhanced on a tremendous scale. In addition, he gains new Chaos Powers. Due to being empowered by the Emeralds' Positive energies, Sonic is capable of neutralizing negative energies. He can also purify negative emotions, like when he reverted Perfect Chaos back to normal by purifying it of its anger and rage (rendering his will to fight inert). Also, Sonic can unleash powerful blasts of Chaos Energy and channel Chaos Energy to amplify the power of his strikes and form defensive barriers.
Invulnerability: Super Forms are empowered by Chaos Energy that largely stems from the will and emotions of the user, best displayed through Shadow being immune to all sources of damage when unleashing the hidden power of good or evil from within himself that allows him to tap into a reserve of enhanced Chaos Powers. As a Super Form is a transformation empowered by the negative or positive emotions of the user, their Invulnerability is tied to emotional power harnessed through the Chaos Emeralds. Lastly, the Super forms are verbatim stated to be invincible, indestructible and invulnerable.
Invulnerability Negation: Super forms can harm other Super forms with normal punches and kicks.
Explosive Aura: Super Sonic is capable of expanding his aura to a large enough extent that it fully consumes several duplicates of Perfect Chaos surrounding him.
Power Nullification: Nullified the creations of Super Eggman made from the Phantom Ruby, dispelling them with his aura alone. Dr. Eggman theorized that Super Sonic's power neutralized "Otherworldification". His aura dispelled the alternate worlds created Dr. Eggman, evaporating them like a mist. Eggman referred to this as Sonic eradicating all of his dreams, an idea to be taken literally due to the Phantom Ruby applying everyone's inner desires to the planet
Arrow of Light: Super Sonic draws light into his body and begins absorbing it. Once he has gathered enough light, Super Sonic immerses himself in the gathered light, thus turning himself into "an arrow of light", and charges into the opponent with immense force.
Constructs: Alongside his normal moveset, Super Sonic can create golden constructs of punches and kicks to attack his enemy in a quick barrage. Against the Wyvern Titan, Super Sonic created chains by using his Cyloop on it. During his fight against the Knight, Super Sonic had created sword-like constructs that stab through the Titan to both hold it in place or attack it directly using one. Super Sonic can create energy duplicates of himself to strike an enemy with fiercer power.
Deflect: Super Sonic swings his arm forward, which covers him in a shield of slate-gray energy that deflects enemy projectiles back at the enemy.
Super Sonic Spinning: Super Sonic curls into a ball and begins spinning while charging up Chaos Energy. Once charged, he shoots himself forward as a powerful project and rams into nearby targets.
Super Sonic Boost: Super Sonic surrounds himself in a golden aura of Chaos Energy before ramming the target with incredible speed, resulting in a rather devastating impact.
Turbo Boost: Super Sonic surrounds himself in a brilliant golden aura that amplifies his speed. This can be used for extensive maneuverability or deployed in short bursts to evade attacks.
Regeneration Negation (Low Godly): The full power of the Chaos Emeralds allowed Sonic to bypass Solaris' regeneration, decapitating it. Even when Solaris revitalized and reformed itself with wings, the damage to it remained.
Dream & Conceptual Manipulation: The Chaos Emeralds allowed Mephiles and Iblis to fuse back into Solaris, who immediately became a threat that would swallow all timelines and destroy the very meaning of time. That additionally encompasses Maginaryworld and all the dreams contained within Fourth Dimensional Space (a space which in itself is Illumina's dream).
Acausality: Sage has stated that Sonic was attempting to transcend causality itself, as said before, but additionally, despite its attunement being the ruling of everything in the universe that exists that has gone unchallenged since time immemorial, The End referred to its own defeat as something that transcends law and time. Super Forms can also function in the Egg Reverie Zone, a dimension where time is constantly distorted and causes Base characters to float aimlessly (displayed further when they are helpless once again upon reverting back).
Additional Resistances:
Memory Manipulation: Having a Chaos Emerald prevented Sonic and Tails from being altered by an incident Eggman caused, which unknowingly warped reality and their history at large.
Death Manipulation: Super Forms can withstand the Eyes of Solaris, which instantly kill those who touch it
Greater Resistances to Transmutation, Biological & Disease Manipulation: Powered directly by the Chaos Emeralds, which prevented Zavok's infection and cured Sonic of the Metal Virus the moment he transformed into Super Sonic.
The Metal Virus in question transforms organic tissue into a metallic substance through physical contact to create a mindless Zombot
Greater Resistances to Information Manipulation and Cyber Corruption: Despite Sonic's corruption worsening throughout his journey across the Starfall Islands, becoming both more physically prominent and debilitating, transforming into Super Sonic always halted its progression.
Starfall Super Sonic
By completing Master King Koco’s trials, the Blue Blur controlled his cyber corruption, transforming it into a newborn power. In his final battle against The End, who possessed Supreme, Sonic used this power to advance his Super state even further beyond, thus resulting in this half crimson-red aura with shiny cyan eyes: Super Sonic 2 (or Starfall Super Sonic). In this form, Sonic receives a significant boost in power, able to largely damage The End, whereas Super Sonic couldn’t even scratch it, and gains a new ability called Perfect Parry, which not only can deflect common attacks, but projectiles and cyber corruption as well. But it doesn’t end here…
Super Sonic Cyber
When Eggman finally warns Sonic that is time to end The End (huh, ironic) once and for all, Sonic decided to not play around anymore, and use all of his cyber corruption into one single blast, resulting in this weird blue cybernetic state with sharp teeth and spiral eyes (where have I seen this before?), to launch himself with full power and speed and destroy The End completely. But, as a result, Sonic lost all of his cyber corruption, permanently losing the forms (big oof).
Hyper Sonic
By utilizing the power of the 7 Super Emeralds, and with the Master Emerald’s allowance, Sonic can enter this shiny form called Hyper Sonic. Hyper Sonic should be superior to his Super form, as such, do the same things as it can (because Super Emeralds are very much superior to Chaos Emeralds in every way). Not only that, but besides having the cool detail of leaving after images when he runs, Hyper Sonic is capable of utilizing an ability called Hyper Flash, which instantly evaporates every enemy on screen.

Moved in tandem with shockwaves created by his punch clash with Beerus, which traversed Universe 7 (358 quadrillion - 507 sextillion c, possibly infinite speed)
Fired a Kamehameha that escaped the Pretty Black Hole, which not even light or his Instant Transmission could escape (At least FTL, possibly infinite)
Durability
Survives a blast from King Piccolo that creates a large crater
Endured numerous bones being shattered by Great Ape Vegeta
Survived getting bombarded with Katchin cubes by Fusion Zamasu
Survived being caught in some sort of black hole created through his Spirit Bomb
Survived the Pretty Black Hole, which not even light or his Instant Transmission could escape from
Survived being ragdolled by Super Broly for a good bit
Cosmology
Universe 7’s Macrocosm
The Living World
The Living World is the lower half of macrocosm. It is perfectly sealed within opaque walls marked with strange patterns, in contrast to the transparent crystalline dome that covers the afterlife. The living word is split in two dimensions described as being like the two sides of a coin. The top half is outer space by the Kaiō and Kaiōshin, and run according to science (or what passes for it in the Dragon Ball world). The bottom half is the Demon Realm where magic has more sway than science, and where evil Makaiō and Makaiōshin are gods. Despite the two dimensions being polar opposites, when beings from either one die their spirits still travel the afterlife with no distinction.
Outer Space
Outer Space, or also called Universe, is the upper portion of the living world, and is the realm where Goku and the other main characters live. It is the only portion of the Dragon Ball world that even remotely resembles reality, being based on the actual universe. As such it consists of planets, stars and other celestial bodies. Daizenshuu 7 explains that in the Dragon Ball universe a collection of planets form a nebula, and a collection of nebulas forms a galaxy. Galaxies within Universe 7 are divided up into North, south, east and west. Dende states there are walls between dimensions and that these same walls separate the ROSAT and the universe, meaning the dimensional walls are 4D. The Daizenshuu confirms this as well. Due to walls separating Afterlife with The Living World and due to the time existing, The Outer Space or Universe does qualify for low multiversal.
Demon Realm
The Demon Realm is located at the very tip of Universe 7, it's the lower half of the living world, a dimension that exists on the reverse side of the universe.as we said before. Demon Realm is a parallel dimension of Outer Space.
The Afterlife
The afterlife in the Dragon Ball series. It is where characters go when they die, and also where the higher deities of the universe reside. The “World View'' section of Daizenshuu 7 divides the afterlife up into three rough areas: the lower third is Hell, ruled by King Enma; the middle third is the Enma Realm, also ruled by King Enma; and the upper third is the Kaiō Realm, ruled by the Dai Kaiō. The Enma Realm consists of Enma’s palace, the Serpent Road, and the Afterlife Airport, while the Kaiō Realm comprises the four Kaiō planets, Heaven, the afterlife sun, and the Dai Kaiō’s planet. In the Daizenshuu, the Afterlife is stated to be a dimensionally transcendental world that can’t be perceived by the human realm.
Toriyama also refers to them as different worlds. (Note: world = universe in the context)
"I think it’s something I came up with so both I and the readers would be able to easily grasp it. The big ball in the center is the world known as this world and the afterlife, and the one who watches over it from outside is Kaiōshin."
— Super Exciting Guide: Character Volume (p. 92)
Heaven
Daizenshuu 4 states that Heaven is the size of the universe. also we can see in the filler arc numerous planets and stars, which would be a good sustaining feat for Heaven being universe sized.
The Realm of the Kai
The Kaioshin Realm is, well, the realm of Kaioshin. It is a special realm completely separate from the macrocosm that the afterlife, universe, and Demon Realm are all enclosed within. It's made up of a giant crystalline sphere, about 1/10th the size of macrocosm, and it revolves around the macrocosm like a moon.
The Room of Spirit and Time
There is not much to say about the latter, it is a different dimension in which the protagonists have been able to train on more than one occasion. When using the Earth entry, time passes 365.24 times faster in the room of Spirit and Time than in the real world, making one day outside the chamber equal to 365.24 days within it (one solar year). Also it's quite obvious that it's a space-time continuum. but it's only planetary sized.
The Multiverse
The Dragon Ball multiverse is the chain of universes within the Dragon Ball series. There are currently twelve in total. Formerly, there were 18 universes in total, but Zeno erased 6 of them when he was angry. Each universe is governed by a Supreme Kai and God of Destruction, who act to balance creation and destruction. The entirety of the multiverse is ruled by Zeno. All these universes have the same structure as Universe 7 that we talked about.
Alternate Timelines
Alternate timelines are different from alternate universes. The timelines "hold" the multiverse. The multiverse exist in a higher time, that fused they form the timeline. There are many of them, but despite those statements, there are only 6 Time Rings in Gowasu’s box, and each Time Ring is a timeline. Though that can be argued against, due to this scene.
Infinite statements
There are also statements implying Dragon Ball’s various universes are infinite in size. Such statements in reference to the universe include, “An infinite space filled with light and darkness.”, “The darkness that stretches out into infinity and illuminates galaxies.”, “The endless, expansive space wrapped around every celestial body that exists in the Living World.”, and it has been stated that “The Kais govern the infinitely expansive universe [of the living world].” As for cosmological bodies within the universe, guidebooks also state “Within the universe, there are ‘nebulae’ composed of innumerable stars, and there are ‘galaxies’ composed of innumerable nebulae”. And as for the Kai’s supervision of the cosmology, “The division of galaxies into east, west, north, south, is a unit used by Kami and Kaio of the heavenly realm for business purposes in order to supervise the infinite number of galaxies that exist in outer space.” There is contention over the validity of these statements though, and arguments involving Bulma stating the universe has an edge.
Sonic
Overall
Has stopped Dr. Eggman MULTIPLE times for years
Constantly beats Metal Sonic, his robotic doppelganger, who is specifically designed to surpass Sonic in every single way
Matches and can defeat Knuckles in fights, who is a master in martials arts and is the guardian of the Master Emerald
Fights and, most of the time, beats Shadow the Hedgehog, the Ultimate Lifeform, with Shadow himself stating that Sonic is superior to him
Beat Ultimate Emerl in less than 30 seconds
Was named THE King Arthur
Fixed time and space alongside his version from the past
Stopped Erazor Djinn from completely rewriting the story of the Arabian Nights
Saved planets and universes from being destroyed multiple times by threats that can manipulate reality itself

Can match the power of a few Chaos Emeralds in base form, defeated Emerl and Perfect Chaos, who had all the Emeralds, and upscales the power of Chaos Emeralds with Super forms
Chaos Emeralds have enough power to shift continents (81 yottatons - 2,165 quettatons of TNT)
Chaos Emeralds empower the Eclipse Cannon, which can pierce through stars (32 quettatons of TNT)
With the Indigo Asteroid, creates a black hole (7.072 ronnatons of TNT)
Sonic possibly scales to Nega Wisps, who also created a black hole (18.08 FOE)
Alongside Shadow, beat Ultimate Emerl in less than 30 seconds
Emerl absorbed an unknown portion of energy from the Final Egg Blaster, which was capable of destroying an entire cluster of stars (465 ExaFOE)
Fought Dark Gaia in base form; this form of Dark Gaia was far superior to how it was when it broke open the planet (7.2 yottatons of TNT)
Defeated King Arthur, who wielded the Scabbard of Excalibur, which he was going to use to merge the World of Camelot with the forces of the Underworld
Excalibur Sonic can match Merlina, who was going to do the same thing, along with freezing the World of Camelot in time
Matched base form Erazor Djinn, who:
Superior to foes like Metal Sonic and Death Egg Robot using the power of the Phantom Ruby
The Phantom Ruby has enough power to create entire dimensions that can go on forever
Matched and eventually defeated Chaos Sonic and other robots powered by shards of the Paradox Prism
The shards have been stated to possess infinite power a few times (Sonic Prime Season 2, Episode 5, 9:04 / S2, Episode 5, 16:03 / S2, Episode 6, 6:49)
The shards can tear holes in space-time and have potential energy to cause universal destruction (Sonic Prime Season 2, Episode 6)
The Paradox Prism shattered the universe (Sonic Prime S1E8) upon Sonic destroying it, in the process forming a series of alternate realities that each contain a parallel world/universe of their own, thus forming the “Shatterverse”
The Shatterverse has been referred to as “a strange new multiverse”
The Paradox Prism created the unknown quantity of “Shatterspaces” within the Shatterverse, each of which containing an alternate reality of their own.
Darkspine Sonic defeated Alf Layla wa-Layla, who was gonna rewrite the reality and the Worlds of the Arabian Nights
Alf Layla wa-Layla's ultimate attack is composed of the Arabian Nights' essence
Darkspine Sonic recreated the Arabian Nights reality with a hand gesture
As Super Sonic:
Alongside Super Shadow, teleported away the Space Colony ARK
Super Sonic and Dark Oak created explosions while clashing (73.92 ronnatons of TNT)
Alongside Burning Blaze, defeated the Egg Salamander and the Egg Wizard
With Super Shadow and Super Silver, defeated Solaris in all points of time
Defeated all the Titans, who were also empowered by the Chaos Emeralds
With the help of Sage, managed to ultimately defeat The End. Sonic could also defeat The End alone in the true ending.
Speed
(It’s his main thing, after all)
Casually runs at the speed of sound, generally Mach 3
Quick enough to dodge electricity and lightning
Keeps up with Hyper Metal Sonic, who flew to North Pole in a short amount of time (Mach 355)
Dodged several beams of light shot by Hotaru (69.4% SoL, NICE)
Dodged lasers from the Oil Ocean Boss (93,4% SoL)
Omega calculated the if Sonic continued running, he would exceed lightspeed
There are so many statements of him being faster than light, why doesn’t he always go with that speed? Is he stupid?
To time travel in Sonic CD, Sonic needed to move faster than light (FTL)
Faster than Metal Sonic using his V. Maximum Overdrive, which makes him four times faster
In Sonic Shuffle, ouran a black hole
Dodged some more lasers (5.64 - 7.79c)
And more lasers… (17030c)
Overclocks the SPD meter (11.42c)
Blitzed a group of Eggforcers enhanced by the Paradox Prism, to the point they were moving in slow motion in comparison
Flies through stars in the Bonus Level of Sonic Runners Adventure (16.58 million c)
Superior to Metal Sonic in Sonic 4 Episode 2, who traveled from Little Planet to earth in seconds (15 - 72c)
Eggman Nega (disguised as Eggman) attempts to escape from Sonic deep in outer space (from the level Meteor Base Zone) with a ship that flies straight through interstellar space at a sustained speed with the background stars they are flying between blurring as trails and passing by their point of view due to parallax (546.58 million c)
In Sonic Advance 3’s Nonaggression Zone, Super Sonic and the Egg Mobile flew towards a nebula in a few seconds (7.068751 billion c)
In Unleashed, Sonic can keep up with the Egg Mobile in base form
In Sonic Prime, after being powered up by Prism energy, moved so fast that he high fived with himself (Season 2, Episode 8, 12:41) (Infinite)
Super Sonic and Dark Oak fight across interstellar distances in seconds (104,315,128.86c)
Super Sonic flew interstellar distances while chasing Nega-Mother Wisp (248 million c)
In his Super forms, should be superior to Final Egg Blaster’s attack speed (58.216748 billion c)
In his Super forms, should also be superior to Babylon Garden taking flight to outer space (212.15 billion c)
Should also be faster than Dodon Pa’s rocket’s travel to Planet Wisp (120.968216333 trillion - 733.6985295 quadrillion c)
Super Sonic and Super Blaze fly to the Exception (3.16 quadrillion c)
Super Sonic’s eyecatch card in Sonic X stated that “his power and speed were already infinite” (arguably infinite)
Can attack Solaris before he crosses his arms to defend himself
Both Super Sonics and Time Eater flew through the end of time in their battle
Super Sonic and Classic Super Sonic can dodge Time Eater’s Warping Arm Attack, which ignores the laws of time and space
Durability
Survived falling from space a lot of times
As seen in the GIF above, got up after Hyper Metal Sonic beats him
Able to regularly spar with Knuckles the Echidna
Survived getting YEETed by Giganto through two rock pillars
Can tank attacks from opponents with the seven Chaos Emeralds in hand, like Emerl and Perfect Chaos
Him and other Sonic Shuffle characters can survive falling into a star
Sonic and Knuckles survived getting beaten the shit out by Super Neo Metal Sonic, who absorbed the energy of the Master Emerald, which is superior to the Chaos Emeralds
With Sonic Guard, can endure attacks that would normally one-shot him
Was beaten the shit out by robots that were powered by the Paradox Prism
As Super Sonic/Hyper Sonic:
Survives getting hit by missiles from Final Weapon, which had the Master Emerald in possession
Able to tank punches from other Super forms like Super Shadow
Survives getting hit with Time Eater’s Warping Arm Attack
Temporarily caught and held back a laser fired by The End with his bare hands
Cosmology
Standard Universes
Parallel worlds have been a thing in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise since its inception, with their existing many alternate universes including:
Sonic’s Universe: The main universe where the vast majority of the games take place.
Silver’s Future: A dystopian alternate timeline from which Silver hails from.
Sol Dimension: The dimension where Blaze and Marine reside. Blaze is referred to as a princess from another dimension.
The World of the Arabian Nights: A world made up the stories of the Arabian Nights, while we can't prove that all 1,001 Nights are their own separate universes, there exist a place within the Night Palace which transports you to a different space-time, so the Arabian Nights should consist of at least 2 universes.
The World of Camelot: A world inspired by Arthurian legends.
The Sequences of theShadow the Hedgehog game: The many pathways to complete the Shadow the Hedgehog game which are saved by the game to view in the Library Option in Story Mode, there exist 326 in total.
Sleeping Egg Zone: A dream world created by Doctor Eggman.
Egg Reverie Zone: A dimension where time constantly shifts back and forth, even to point which don't exist.
Null Space: A dimension described as an endless void of nothingness.
Chaotic Inferno Zone: The homeworld of the Ifrit.
Cyber Space: A digital world created by the abstract feelings of the Ancients.
Cyberspace: Another digital world which appeared in Shadow the Hedgehog (2005) which relays information to and from Earth. There exists at least 2 Cyberspaces, the United Federation’s and the Eggman Empire's.
Aqua Planet Zone’s dimension: The dimension where Aqua Planet Zone resides.
Flicky Dimension: The parallel dimension where the Flickies reside.
Special Stage Universe (Sonic Chaos): The universe where the Special Stages take residence in Sonic Chaos, in contrast to the other Special Stages, are all stated to reside in a single universe.
Stardust Speedway’s Bad Future: The dystopian future of Stardust Speedway.
Sonic Riders’ Digital Dimension
Shatterverse: The Shatterverse is a multiverse which was created by the destruction of the Paradox Prism by Sonic, there are stated to be number of Shatterspaces (alternate realities birthed from the universe's split), but so far the we know that exist are:
New Yoke City: A dystopian world which is ruled with an iron fist by the Chaos Council
No Place: A dimension which contain an endless expanse of ocean
Bozcage Maze: A dimension containing a thick jungle
The Grim: A dimension devoid of life and covered by a vast desert
Ghost Hill: The ghostly and corrupted remains of the original Green Hill
Special Stages
The Special Stages are essentially bonus level which usually serves as the residence of the Chaos Emeralds throughout the majority of the games.
The Special Stages can be considered alternate realities as:
Fang’s origin is from a special stage, which is confirmed to be another dimension
The Special Stages in Sonic Rush are entered by dimensional distortions, suggesting that dimensional travel is being used to enter them. Given that Sonic and Blaze's worlds are parallel (Blaze is the Sonic of her dimension, the Sol Emeralds are the Chaos Emeralds' counterpart, Marine is Tails' counterpart, Eggman Nega is Eggman's counterpart, Metal Sonic 3.0 is Metal Sonic's counterpart, etc.) we can also assume that the special stages in Sonic's world require the same dimensional travel.
Since every game has 7 Special Stages (S3&K has 14), we can just multiply the number of games by 7, from which we get the following games:
Sonic 1 (16-bit)
Sonic 1 (8-bit)
Sonic 2
Sonic CD
Sonic 3 & Knuckles (another 7 for this one)
Knuckles' Chaotix
Sonic 3D Blast
Sonic Blast
Sonic Pocket Adventure
Sonic Advance
Sonic Advance 2
Sonic Heroes
Sonic Rush
Sonic Rush Adventure
Sonic 4 Episode I
Sonic 4 Episode II
Sonic Colors
Sonic Lost World
Sonic Mania
This amounts to 140 separate dimensions.
An infinite multiverse?
Our last argument for the regular multiverse of the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, consists of an argument said by Tails on his YouTube series “Tailstube”.
In the 4th episode, Tails explains that the multiverse contains endless possibilities and the possibility of infinite parallel Sonics existing and thus, infinite universes was brought up. Something similar was said by one of the writers of the franchise, Ian Flynn, who said the Sonic multiverse has endless possibilities. That results in a possibility of an infinite multiverse. As of the time this blog was written and posted, there are no showings of the Sonic multiverse having an infinite amount of universes, so the Tailstube and Ian statements remain as a possibility.
Maginaryworld
(oh boy)
The Nature of Dreams
Maginaryworld is a dimension where dreams and reality co-exist, in which the dreams of people from other dimensions transform into reality, becoming universes of their own. Everyone's dream worlds are stated to exist separately with Illumina manifesting in each of the quartet's dreams. Going by the example mentioned above, we can assume that there exist as many dream worlds as individuals capable of dreaming, with the Maginaryworld being stated to be the source of all dreams across all dimensions.
The Size of Dreams
The dream worlds within Maginaryworld are consistently shown to contain starry skies and nebulae as well as other large celestial bodies. Since all dreams are shown to possess them. It is safe to say that they're the same size. Maginaryworld is also stated to be a place where dreams and reality co-exist, as previously mentioned. There exists evidence to show that dreams do indeed coincide with Sonic's reality, with Sonic mistaking Tikal's vision of the past as a dream, declaring lucidity in that he couldn't have been dreaming with him repeating this sentiment with his encounter with Perfect Chaos. To top it all off, the Official Sonic Adventure Guide states that the visions of the past are indeed dreams.
This phenomena is repeated in the Sonic Forces prelude comic (which is canon) when Knuckles assumes that he is dreaming when he meets Silver traveling to the past, to which Silver states that he isn't dreaming, leaving him in disbelief. This not only proves that dreams do indeed reflect reality, but enforces that they can contain space-time.
More evidence for universe-sized dream worlds comes from the Chao in Space animation (which is canon, being stated to take place in the same Chao Garden in Sonic Adventure 2), which involves a Chao dreaming of an interstellar battle in deep space in which we see numerous galaxies in the same manner that is shown in the dreams world located within the Maginaryworld.
Q: How do we know wishes/desires become dreams?
A: Two different things. One is a from the Sonic Encyclopedia once again, which details each of the quartet's dreams in each of their sections (Sonic's dreams of adventure, Tails' dreams of the freedom of flight, Amy's dreams of being close with nature, Knuckles' dreams of peace and sunny relaxation). Two will be quotes from characters in the game itself.
First Quote:
Second Quote:
Amy: “It's a dream because it hasn't been fulfilled yet... But one day you'll make it come true.”
Third Quote:
Void: “What is a dream? Did you do something? Did you become something?”
Fourth Quote:
Q: What do those quotes mean?
A: A person's wish/desire to accomplish something involving the entire universe is a dream that's made true in Maginaryworld. The perfect example of this is what Black Doom desires, which is to conquer the universe. Which also lends to the fact that individual dreams are completely separate realities as entire universes (aka 4th dimensional constructs/ space-times).
Examples:
Doctor Eggman has ambitions to take over the universe
Erazor Djinn/Alf Layla Wa-Layla desires to remake the Worlds of the Arabian Nights
Merlina desires to remake the World of Camelot, a kingdom that never ends
Black Doom desires to rule the universe
Dodon Pa aspires for universal peace
The End desires to break down the walls between dimensions
Any assumptions that these desires wouldn't have a place in Maginaryworld, or that those dreams wouldn't manifest, are both unfounded and going against Occam's Razor (especially since Black Doom has been around for 50+ years, long before the events of Shuffle, and The End has more than twenty thousand years). Furthermore, even in the dream worlds which were not created from any cosmic/stellar desires are shown to be vast in size. It's especially ridiculous to assume that these dreams are universal in size yet the others aren't, as they're all shown to be expansive in size and none are stated or shown to vary in their size either.
4th Dimension Space
4th Dimension Space is the final board in Sonic Shuffle, it is the location where all dreams are stored and also happens to be Illumina's dream. The only thing that needs to be noted here is that 4th Dimension Space is referred to as an "infinite 4-dimensional space".
Number of Universes
This one is a debatable topic, which includes calculations of how many dreams are there to transform into universes. Let’s start with humans on Sonic’s earth.
It is estimated that the average person has 136,875 dreams in one lifetime. For fairness, we’ll round this number to just one hundred thousand. We know that Sonic Shuffle was released in 2001, and the population at the time was 6.114 billion, which we’re rounding up to 6 billion. Multiplying the earth population with the amount of dreams one person has in their entire life would result in 600 trillion universes. But it doesn’t end here, we must also remember that animals in the Sonic series have human level intelligence, such as the Flicky inside Gamma fighting against Eggman's programming upon seeing her child, or the Flicky that accompanies Amy having a pendant that was given to them by their parents. Since animals are as smart as humans, this means their dreams can also be counted. The estimated number of animals on Earth is 20 quintillion. Each species of animal has a different life span, some much longer than humans, and some much shorter. They also have different sleeping cycles, some sleeping more than humans, and some sleeping less. To make this simpler, I'll use the number of dreams of humans as a lowball, which results in 2 septillion universes. There could be even more, since we haven’t included alternate universes/dimensions.
Scaling
Goku
Vegeta
"I've fought to push down others, you only fight to push yourself. Hang in there, Kakarot. You are number one."
Enemies in the past, rivals in the present. Goku and Vegeta have fought many, many times, and through the majority of events of some arcs, they are always even in power. The prince of the Saiyans is no pushover himself, and is able to do some impressive feats.
Vegeta was stronger than his father even as a child, who can destroy multiple planets (14.34 ronnatons - 1.8 quettatons of TNT)
Saiyan Saga Vegeta powering up had enough raw power to destroy the Earth
Vegeta effortlessly dodged lasers under 150 times Earth’s normal gravity
Vegeta tanked being in the epicenter of Nappa’s city busting explosion (51.9 teratons of TNT)
Vegeta broke through the dimensional barriers of the Hyperbolic Time Chamber
Zamasu
"I am justice given form! I am the world! Now venerate the most noble, most splendid, immortal, and supremely powerful god: Zamasu!"
Goku directly fought all of Zamasu’s forms, pushing back Zamasu, matching Goku Black, and later surpassing Fusion Zamasu. Thus, he should naturally scale to every form of the Zero Mortal Plan’s creator.
Both Zamasu and Goku Black destroyed the Super Dragon Balls
They also had to gather the Super Dragon Balls in the first place, meaning they probably had to push them across universes
Fusion Zamasu threatened to wipe out the galaxy, and potentially every galaxy
Infinite Zamasu merged with the universe, spreading and affecting alternate timelines (debatable, see Verdicts)
Fusion Zamasu can react to and move in tandem with Zeno’s timeline encompassing blast (possibly immeasurable)
Beerus
"Now you're catching on… I AM THE IMPOSSIBLE!"
The God of Destruction of Universe 7. In their first battle, Goku could go toe to toe with Beerus, and in the manga, stalemated with him. Beerus, as the GoD, is significantly powerful.
Jiren
"Strength is everything. All is possible with power and power alone."
During the Tournament of Power, Goku constantly matches and fights Jiren, and in the end, aided in his defeat, so it’s safe to say he should scale to the Pride Trooper, much more because he’s much stronger and powerful than when he was at the Tournament.
Jiren can quickly fly between planets
Jiren's power transcends time itself, enabling him to break through Hit's Time Cage (check Verdicts for more information)
In a heavily suppressed state, Jiren powering up shook the World of Void
Broly
"RAAAAAAGH!"
While Broly was initially one of the most powerful beings in the Dragon Ball multiverse, Goku and Vegeta have since surpassed him. There was a point in which Toyotaro stated that Ultra Instinct Goku had yet to surpass Broly, but that mention of Broly being stronger was removed. Even then, they should at least be comparable in power.
Z!Broly destroyed a galaxy and had the potential to destroy the universe
Paragus believes Z!Broly, if out of control, would destroy the universe
Super!Broly output so much energy that the universe could not handle it and he was thrown into the Dimension of Swirly Lights
Broly then destroyed this dimension
Miscellaneous
Goku is easily one of the most powerful beings in all of Dragon Ball history, with only Zeno, the Grand Priest, the Angels, and maybe the Gods of Destruction being stronger. Thus he should scale to any other significant feat in the franchise.
Granolah could snipe Goku from miles away.
Granolah destroyed a ball of Destruction energy the size of a planet.
First Form Freeza destroyed Planet Vegeta (4.9 quettatons of TNT)
Perfect Cell shook the universe by powering up and threatened to destroy the solar system from Earth.
Cooler reacted to Goku while he was in the middle of using Instant Transmission (debatably Infinite)
In Toei, the Daizenshuu clarifies that Instant Transmission works by traveling to another realm to teleport where you want to be, with the Son Goku Densetsu describing the realm as transcending time. Cooler would likely have to be reacting within infinitesimal time to perform this feat
Majin Buu, on numerous occasions, has threatened the entire universe and universe-sized realms.
Toppo affected the World of Void with a single attack.
Cell MAX created an energy ball with a gravitational pull similar to a black hole.
Everyone and their mom has destroyed or created a moon at one point.
Sonic
Shadow the Hedgehog
“I’m more than enough on my own. I’ll handle things my way.”
Mister Ultimate Lifeform himself! Sonic and Shadow have been constant rivals, fighting between themselves several times. They’re mostly equal, with Shadow even admitting a few times that Sonic is superior to him. Shadow has:
Reacted to the Paradox Prism’s explosion with Chaos Control (293 quintillion c)
His Spears of Light are powerful enough to hurt Solaris
Silver the Hedgehog
“The future holds our destiny, and I am here to shape it.”
Sonic and Silver fought many times. Sonic has defeated Silver a few times in 06, and later in Sonic Generations, did it again. Super Sonic would also scale to Super Silver, logically.
Super Silver throws the Metal Virus from earth (583.85 yottatons of TNT)
Super Silver forces the Metal Virus into the Sun (1.1 ronnatons of TNT)
Reflected Solaris’ attacks back at him
Doctor Eggman (and his mechs)
“...The world? I'm going to OWN the world when I'm finished with Sonic!”
Since the beginning, Sonic and Robotnik have fought each other, with Sonic coming out on top 227 thousand times, as mentioned before. In such, he defeated plenty of Eggman mechs over the games, and should be able to scale to some of the feats Eggman pulled out:
Eggman uses the Space Colony ARK to PISS ON THE MOON! (682.92 zettatons - 1.53 yottatons of TNT) (HOW DO YOU LIKE THAT, OBAMA??)
The Egg Wizard is amplified by the Power of the Stars, which sustains the existence of parallel universes. At least two are mentioned, but there are others that could be noted, such as Chaotic Inferno Zone, the two storybook dimensions, and the special stage universe. Eggman also stated that upon acquiring the Power of the Stars, it was “more power than he ever thought possible.” At this time, Eggman was aware of the Precioustone (page 3), which sustains the existence of Maginaryworld, so it’s possible the Egg Wizard is even more powerful.
Egg Salamander completely drained the energy of the Sol Emeralds, the presence of which in conjunction with the Chaos Emeralds was causing Blaze's universe to merge with Sonic's and ultimately would've caused both universes to collapse.
Egg Salamander was stated to have the power to make an Eggmanland transcend dimensions
Time Eater
During the plot of Sonic Generations, we are presented to the mysterious Time Eater. In the final boss, it is revealed that Eggman and Classic Eggman were the ones behind it. But, of course, the two Hedgehogs from the Classic and Modern era in their Super forms were able to eventually defeat them.
Time Eater drops at Classic Sonic’s universe and destroys it (4.89132353 - 146.7397059 quadrillion c)
Destroyed space-time on a scale encompassing all of reality / "all of space-time"
The battle with the Super Sonics extended across different dimensions in what appears to be the timestream
Solaris
In the final battle of Sonic 06, Mephiles and Iblis, with the power of the seven Chaos Emeralds, managed to return to their true form: Solaris, the Sun God of Soleanna, a super-dimensional being who existed in the past, present and future. While Super Sonic could defeat Solaris, he could not defeat Solaris in all points of time, and so, Super Shadow and Super Silver helped Sonic in that regard. Ultimately, the three of them defeated Solaris across time, and should scale to him, since the only problem with Solaris was his temporal omnipresence. Solaris can:
Eat dimensions for lunch
Stated that he would destroy all of time and space, consuming all existing timelines and dimensions
Solaris spread his light across the universe, and all other branching timelines (77 quadrillion c, possibly higher)
Solaris (and other characters) can also erase, destroy, or extend their influence across spaces that have been called infinite or endless before in guidebook material (Night Palace, the tunnel dimension in the Time Eater boss arena, Null Space in the Encyclospeedia)
The End
”Mortal, you have served your purpose. Now, face your End.”
A mysterious entity that only holds one purpose: bring everything to nothing. Thousands of years ago, The End destroyed the Ancients’ home planet, causing them to flee to earth with the Chaos Emeralds. When it arrived, it fought with four titans created by it, until Supreme’s pilot eventually sacrificed himself to trap The End in its titan and then let the other three trap it in Cyberspace. It was awoken by Eggman, years ago, meddling with the Ancients’ technology. When Sonic first escaped Cyberspace, The End talked to him, saying that he released an impossible feat.
Much later, at the end of the game, The End reveals itself as the final boss, in which both vanilla and true ending, Super Sonic managed to defeat him.
The End can casually destroy planets
Wanted to “consume all”, with Sonic confident that he had to "save everyone, everywhere" from it
Stated to be infinite compared to all of Sonic's past adversaries, which would include the likes of the Egg Wizard and Solaris due to Sonic remembering the events of 06.
Super Sonic would not be able to stop it if The End was at full power, further proving that The End is above all Sonic’s past opponents
Weaknesses
Goku
As strong as Goku is, he’s far from perfect. He’s incredibly skilled and powerful, breaks every limit he possibly can, but he still can be defeated by common means. Enough damage will knock him out, he cannot fight forever, as Ki is limited and his transformations and abilities drain them even more, and he can not survive a fatal wound. Though one problem stands above that: the fact that Goku, as good as he is, still has innate bouts of selfishness, causing him to make rash decisions which can go out of control. Goku also likes to fight opponents at their best, which can also have a massive drawback if his opponent ends up being much stronger.
Sonic
Sonic is powerful, and always called the fastest thing alive by basically everyone. That leaves him with a huge disadvantage: his cockiness. Because of Sonic’s cocky and laidback attitude, the Blue Blur tends to not take his opponents seriously, only taking things up when he thinks he has to, leaving him vulnerable of underestimation if he gets to comfy with the competition. Sonic also hates when someone tries to beat him in his own game, making him reckless in a fight if he sees his opponent starting to rip off his style.
And of course, Super Sonic’s very powerful, but not completely invincible, especially because of his time limit. While it is debatable whether his Rings determine his time limit or if it is just stamina, it still is limited. It is stated that because of the unlimited power the Chaos Emeralds give Sonic, it keeps draining his energy, so if an opponent could outlast his Super forms, this could give Sonic a huge problem.
Hang on a second…
Is Hyper Sonic canon?
There’s a lot of questions about if Hyper Sonic should really be considered canon, mostly because he didn’t appear since Sonic 3 & Knuckles and Iizuka said he doesn’t exist in the Modern continuity. However, there’s some showings that can prove that accessing the form is still possible for Sonic. Super Emeralds appeared in Sonic Adventure and are alluded to in Sonic Mania. They are still part of the lore for this transformation to potentially be possible for Sonic to achieve, as the Super Emeralds are merely Chaos Emeralds amplified by the Master Emerald's power. Additionally, Christian Whitehead talked about the form, and said it happened, but Sonic Team doesn’t use it anymore.
Does Sonic really scale to Solaris?
There’s several debates around that argue that Super Sonic shouldn’t scale to Solaris, which here, we will explain why he does.
Solaris was never stronger than Super Sonic. While yes, the hedgehog trio needed to attack Solaris’ “weak spot” in order to kill him, the light shells and the core aren’t that much of a weak spot to begin with, and as shown in their fight, Solaris can take hits from it's own attacks thanks to Silver, which debunks them as being the "weak spot". Even if we go with that assumption, they still destroyed Solaris’ god armor, and even blew its head off. Even Sonic and Shadow themselves were mocking Solaris, showing that they weren’t really taking the fight seriously.
Sonic: “Let's see how long you can keep up with that big attitude.”
Shadow: “A super-dimensional being? heh, this may actually be a fair fight!”
The other argument against the scaling is that it needed the three hedgehogs to beat Solaris, which is actually a misunderstanding. Each Super hedgehog had to fight Solaris at a different point in time in order to kill it. Meaning each hedgehog fought and killed Solaris at a different point in time, so they would all scale to its full power.
Is Goku’s Hakai a worse version?
Addressing Goku’s Hakai, there are arguments for his Hakai not being as powerful as Beerus or Vegeta, but there are also arguments helping it. Let’s talk about the latter first. You could argue that the only reason it didn’t work on Zamasu was because Zamasu pulled Mai in the way. To add more, the potency of someone’s Hakai is not based on how effective the erasure is, but rather how powerful and precise the attack itself is. Goku has also shown the attack in the Moro arc, and the effects were similar to other Hakai users. However, there are counters for it. As seen in the same scan above, Goku himself said he messed up Hakai, and not that he was interrupted or something of the sort. Additionally, when he used the Hakai on Zamasu, he didn’t use Destruction Ki, he released all of Super Saiyan Blue’s energy left into a single attack that would render him unable to fight afterwards, though that can be argued against since he was fighting Zamasu for a long time.

Stats
Attack Potency
Goku and Sonic are both much more powerful than simple feats such as mountain or country busting potency, they also can easily destroy planets if they wanted to, but one thing that is undeniable here is that base form Sonic can’t stand up against Goku in strength. Sonic in his base form is capable of scaling to powerful large planet to large star arguments, potentially reaching solar system levels. You can even argue base form Sonic being universal or low multiversal via Phantom Ruby and shards of the Paradox Prism, however, they aren’t the safest option to go from, and even then, none of those gets close to Goku’s base power, whose shockwaves can get to thousands of times universal affecting three different space-times. This is an easy advantage for Goku. But now, things get much trickier to settle between their most powerful states.
Starting with Goku, he is much stronger than his first clash with Beerus. Multipliers can get him to quadrillions of times universal.
Q: But isn’t Dragon Ball’s universe infinite?
A: No, it isn’t. For starters, the majority of these arguments consist of an “infinitely expanding universe”. Statements like “innumerable” or “countless” are also present. These are very simple to resolve, because nothing here really implies infinite in size. The universe is infinitely expanding, just like ours, and innumerable or countless relates to, well, a lot of them. Countless/innumerable doesn’t automatically mean infinite. A really large number can be that, “too many to count”, “too many to number”.
Q: But what about the “an infinite space of light and darkness where the unknown lives” scan?
A: This is just a poetic description of the universe. The Daizenshuu 4 translator himself says this, therefore it's not literal:
“It’s a poetic description of space as “infinitely extending darkness and the illumination of the galaxies”, “tens of thousands of light years...hundreds of millions of light years...” - Todd Blankenship/Herms.
But let’s give that and say the universe is really infinite, and additionally, this could potentially put the Dragon Ball cosmology at Multiversal+. The problem here is that none of the characters except Zeno would scale.
Q: But what about Infinite Zamasu?
A: Infinite Zamasu didn’t merge with all timelines and not even the universe itself. Nothing in the scans say that Zamasu merged with the universe. Gowasu says that Zamasu might be trying to become one with the universe and justice and law itself.
Translation (DeepL): Torn in half by Trunks' sword, Zamasu went half-crazy, ranting and raving as he shattered. He had finally done it. Trunks and the others were biting back their joy. Then, suddenly, with a rumbling of the earth, an eerie rush of energy erupted into the sky. There, Zamasu's face appeared in countless numbers, spreading out and covering the sky with his laughing voice. Goku and the others attacked with chi bullets, but they were completely helpless. On the contrary, energy waves poured down from the sky, wiping out the city without a trace. In the midst of the desperate situation, Goku realizes that there is something in his pocket.
Nothing in this scene suggests such another. We still see Zamasu attempting to extend his presence, but nothing suggests he has merged with the universe. Zamasu dominated the planet Earth, spreading out and engulfing the skies with his being, and then his presence began to spread out into space. However, never is it later shown or stated that Zamasu managed to merge with the universe. That was his intention, according to Gowasu, but nothing in any episode or any website or any artbook confirms whether or not he accomplished it.
Q: If Zamasu wasn’t merged with the universe, why did Zeno erase it?
A: Zeno did not swoop in and just erase Universe 7 before leaving. No, he erased the entire timeline. Zeno uses the word "world" when describing his target, and the word "world" is typically reserved for entire timelines, as they are referred to as "parallel worlds" in Dragon Ball. Had he only targeted that specific universe, which would have singled out Zamasu as the sole target and added credence to the idea that he became the entire universe, he would have used the word "universe" which is what everyone in the entire series uses when referencing... universes. Zeno was already annoyed by Zamasu and on top of that, Goku -- someone he does not know because this is the future timeline -- randomly pulled him away from whatever activity he was doing to take care of Zamasu. It has already been established that Zeni has a very short temper; in the past, he erased six universes because he was in an "unpleasant mood", and Whis has stated before that he could and would end up erasing everything from existence if he ever got sour. Him erasing the entire future Multiverse because he was ticked off by Zamasu is just par for the course with Zeno
Q: Wasn’t Zamasu shown to be present in the main timeline and affecting the past to a certain degree?.
A: Time traveling in Dragon Ball is not at all like time traveling in Back to the Future or something. Time flows in one direction in Dragon Ball, and no matter what, that timeline keeps on trucking. Should one go back in time under any capacity and change anything, a whole new parallel world would be created, branching off of the original world's timeline. These are just alternate universes, akin to different Earths in DC Comics. You are never truly going back in time unless you have an ability like Whis' Temporal Do-Over and even then, he is rarely allowed to use it and can only go back as far as five minutes. For example, in the original Dragon Ball, Future Trunks used a time machine his mother Bulma built in order to travel back in time by seventeen years after his world was ravished by the villainous and unstoppable Androids. However, rather than actually traveling back in time, he actually traveled to an alternate dimension where our main cast lives. By going "back in time" and saving Goku's life by giving him the cure to his eventual deadly virus, Trunks altered the future of this world, allowing the main cast to live happily ever after... after Cell was dealt with. But, nothing in his world changed, because the two, while related, are not the same worlds. The present timeline is not the actual past version of Future Trunks' timeline and as a result, nothing in that timeline affects his own. Hell, the Supreme Kai are capable of traveling through timelines with their teleportation ability, Kai Kai. Infinite Zamasu appearing in the present timeline is no more than a Dimensional Travel feat.
Q: But Beerus said Zamasu was affecting the past!
Beerus: “Something happened in the future. It’s having an effect on the present.”
Beerus did not state that Zamasu was literally affecting the present's temporal axis. He was just expressing concern over the now-dire situation.
Now, what about Sonic? Super Sonic should be massively above universal level, and comparable if not superior to threats like Solaris, Time Eater, and The End, who threatened the entire cosmology, encompassing at least billions of dreams, which are universes with different space-times, alongside with the overall rest of the universes in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise.
Q: Was Solaris really affecting all dimensions?
A: The official guidebook stated Solaris would turn "everything into nothing." Logically this means Solaris would've also destroyed all dimensions along with all of time and space. Maginaryworld is stated to be the 4th dimension, which is what time is, due to Albert Einstein's theory of relativity. Seeing how Solaris was going to destroy all of time, Maginaryworld is the 4th dimension; the 4th dimension is time; we can safely assume that Solaris would've affected Maginaryworld.
Q: The way Eggman states that time will collapse after Solaris consumes all timelines makes it seem more like a chain reaction rather than the immediate effect Solaris was causing with its own power.
A: This is not really true. Eggman says: "This creature will consume all existing timelines--and time itself will collapse and disappear into nothingness." What Eggman is saying is that Solaris will destroy all timelines, making time itself collapse and disappear into nothingness. If Eggman's point was that it was a chain reaction, he would've said. "This creature will consume all existing timelines--and afterwards time itself will collapse and disappear into nothingness." What Eggman was describing is more so that its destruction is something that would happen in a manner that would be very brief rather than a chain reaction.
Q: Does Maginaryworld really have different space-times?
A: I think it’s a bit obvious that each person has a different space-time to their own dream worlds. Even if there are other realms in Maginaryworld that function that way with a collusion of aspirations, that would still be presented as parallel sized, because some people experience separate dream(s) world(s) that are made real in Maginaryworld, shown when Tails, Knuckles, Amy, or Sonic fall asleep there and have separate dream scenes with Illumina with the golden or blue sky around them. There really isn't any real indication that people who dream in their multiverse would experience other people that are sleeping at the same time popping up in their dreams to share it; Tails' statement is just a blatant logical conclusion that there's a dream world per person that exists there, due to Tails never seeing another person in his dreams, nor anyone else that would "share'' his dream world. The fact that Firebird is a dream world specifically made for Tails to fly and soar free in the sky or how Amy's dream world allows her to become closer to nature should inherently debunk the argument. There's a dream for each main character, and they all exist outside of 4th Dimension Space. For these individual dreams to function properly they'd need time, and it's clearly shown they don't need 4th Dimension Space's help. Meaning that not only is everyone's misc. dreams included in 4th Dimension Space, but they actually all have their own personal dream dimension made for them exactly.
Q: What does this all mean?
A: Even if Goku was much more powerful than octillion or nonillion times universal, Sonic is much more stronger via having the potential to affect at least billions of different space-times, while Goku can affect 3, and that’s not even including the manual saying 4th Dimensional Space is infinite that added with the multiple scans that backs up the Sonic multiversal having infinite timelines, could increase the gap even further, though these are much more trickier to discuss. Sonic takes an edge on attack potency with finite ends and infinite ends, since even if you bought the Dragon Ball cosmology being multiversal+, Goku wouldn’t scale. Besides, they would at best be relative in that category.
Speed
Both Goku and Sonic are much faster than light, that is no question. Both Goku and Sonic can go massively faster than light, but who is faster? Well, this one is a hellish one. Both of these characters can go way above quadrillion times faster than light, and with the multiplier hell that these two have, it can be way above that. So, in order to analyze that in a safe way, let’s just take a look at their direct feats of finite showings going faster than light, Sonic and his transformations have many quadrillion c calcs, but Goku’s ends show him getting sextillions or maybe even higher. You could argue that Sonic’s Spin-Dash, Super Peel Out, Boost, and Ring multipliers to his speed could add and surpass Goku’s, but it is a fact that the Super Saiyan possesses a direct advantage. However, we all know that it doesn’t end here, because Dragon Ball and Sonic have many infinite and immeasurable arguments, who will be addressed here.
For Goku, he would upscale Zamasu, who reacted to Zeno. Zeno destroyed the timeline, he didn’t just destroy the multiverse itself. This means he was destroying time, and so his energy was moving where time did not exist, meaning Zeno’s energy was moving in zero time. Thus it is a case of immeasurable speed. Goku also upscales Cooler, who intercepts his Instant Transmission, implying infinite/immeasurable speeds. If you buy the Dragon Ball universe being infinite in size, feats like the shockwaves also make Goku infinite in speed For Sonic, his arguments are much more debatable in the vs scenario, but he has shown quite a bit, like reacting to Solaris and keeping up with the Time Eater. Additionally, Sonic X’s eyecatches also say that Super Sonic’s speed reached infinite speed.
Q: Is Solaris really temporally omnipresent?
A: Solaris not being omnipresent through all of time really just doesn't make sense as saying it's only just the past, present, future wouldn't actually debunk immeasurable speed Sonic at all. Immeasurable is movement beyond linear time. This is why the speed cannot be measured. Given that S = D/T, if T is undefined the speed formula cannot be applied. This is the same reason why multiple temporal dimensions also grant immeasurable speed.
"A being that is not only omnipresent throughout space, but also time, would also be able to react to every attack from a being with normal speed before the opponent would even begin to throw the attack. This is the case because such a being would exist throughout all of time, experiencing past, presence and future at once while not being bound to the normal flow of time.~ The Speed Page, Note 3"
We know that Solaris is a super-dimensional, a transcendent being as you will; existing in the past, present, and future all at once. This makes it very clear that he's a higher-dimensional being and not bound by linear time, so any movement he makes automatically is immeasurable. You would need immeasurable speed to even be able to interact with Solaris. With this, even with taking Eggman's statement at face value it doesn't change anything. Sonic would still be immeasurable. It also just seems like an egregious assumption to assume it's three randomized points in time rather than the entirety of it. Eggman doesn't even know about Silver's future; other instances of the game refer to all of time by saying "the past, present, and future." If Solaris could turn everything into nothing and consume all of time (which includes hundreds, potentially infinite timelines) how could Solaris only be in 3 of the timelines? That can't really make sense unless we have proof that Solaris can affect all timelines while only being in 3 of them. But we don't really have proof of that and we can't just assume it. The game refers to "the past, present, and future." to be all of time, so that’s how we're going, since it makes more sense in the narrative of the story. Meaning Solaris has to be temporally omnipresent.
Q: If Super Sonic had immeasurable speed, he wouldn’t need the help of Shadow and Silver to kill Solaris.
A: They're shown being attacked by Solaris with attacks that are being launched millions upon millions of years in the past and millions upon millions of years in the future, and they're seeing it like a normal human would see the present. We know this because we see Solaris' attacks even when you switch to a character that's within a different time period (I.E. Silver [future] to Sonic [present]). Look at when the gameplay switches to Sonic. You can see Solaris' attacks still flying out to where Silver is. Another example would be this. When Shadow switches with Silver, you can see Solaris still in the position it was in when fighting Shadow. This would mean Solaris isn't attacking at merely just one point in time. He's attacking throughout all of them. Which means he's moving through non-linear time and Sonic, Shadow and Silver react to it, making them immeasurable. The point of "if they were immeasurable, they would not need to team up to defeat Solaris" doesn't actually mean anything as all three would still need to react to Solaris' attacks at very point in time as the same attack will be in the past, present and the future which would be non-linear therefore immeasurable.
Alright, but let’s say you still don’t buy Sonic being immeasurable because of Solaris. Let’s move on to Time Eater, who alongside the two Super forms, were moving through the end of time.
Q: Flying through the end of time means Sonic and Time Eater were flying around the area that is the end of time. Even the second scan shown says “flying at” instead of “flying through”, and it is called a separate dimension in the game.
A: Yes the second scan does say "flying at" but the first scan explicitly says "Flying through the end of time." There is no contradiction here, just wording differently. Also, yes, they were in a separate dimension, but you could make the argument that if they were flying through the end of time, they must've been in some kind of time stream and something doesn't need to be explicitly stated in order to exist. But let’s give that and say this is invalid to classify Time Eater/Super Sonics immeasurable. There’s still Time Eater's Warping Arm Attack which ignores the laws of time and space. As time holes lead to different points in time, when the arms reach the Sonics, they're in a different time period as opposed to the Time Eater. The Sonics can react to them and are able to defeat the Time Eater. This would qualify as immeasurable speed.
Q: Time Eater’s time slow worked on Super Sonic.
A: That just means his abilities are layered. Sonic has resisted time stops before, so this would logically imply that this is a layered hax.
One recent feat that would be interesting to talk about is the more recent feat shown in Sonic Prime, in the 8th episode of 2nd season, where Sonic goes so fast he high fives with himself. Now, this sounds simple to debunk, you can say it was just an after-image, but when Sonic high fives, he explicitly makes a sound when doing so, meaning that somehow, he was able to touch himself to do a high five. There are also some other feats that can be infinite or immeasurable, like when Phantom King moved in a place where time was nonlinear as indicated by the timer, or the Chaos Emeralds being able to travel between realities which could be immeasurable. As leaving one reality and going to another can be considered immeasurable, since If they’re separate space-time continuums with their own time axes you would have to leave one timeline (which means going beyond it’s time axis) in order to enter another one. This would also make Sonic & Blaze flying into another universe arguably immeasurable as well.
TL;DR: Goku and Sonic are at their best, infinite/immeasurable in speed, making them equal in this category.
Durability
This one doesn’t really need much talk. Both should scale to their attack potencies via taking hits from characters who scale to those levels of power, making this in favor for Sonic more often than not, or this could be equal if you buy them both having infinite ends. Additionally, since Rings multiply his durability, this could make Sonic’s durability several times better.
For stamina, it would seem that Goku would take it, since Super forms having a less than a minute of time limit is not difficult to conclude. However, this category is actually very much in favor of Sonic. Rings being his time limit or not have been a very debatable topic, but for either ends, Sonic should be above how much time Goku can fight. We can assume Goku can fight for at least a few hours, as shown in a few Dragon Ball battles, but Super Sonic has been in the form for days, or if you go by Rings, he could stay up for 3 years (if you go with the almost 10 million Rings from Sonic the Hedgehog (2006)).
Arsenal & Abilities
This category is a pretty good one. When it comes to arsenal, Goku is easily outmatched by his blue opponent. He realistically only has the Power Pole for offensive equipment, which would do nothing to Sonic, as he doesn’t really use magic. Sonic’s arsenal is huge, and lets him play with Goku with a lot of options, like controlling his body like a puppeteer with the Forcejewels, manipulate gravity with the Ark of the Cosmos, create black holes with Wisps, swap places, become invincible and unharmable, increase his speed many times over, and not even getting started on Chronicles items, which can restore his health, make him stronger, guarantee a hit, and make Goku’s chance of hitting him way less likely. Things like Chaos Emeralds, Chao, and Soul Gauge can also bring him back from dying, and many items can restore his health to maximum. There are some abilities that Goku would resist like Ring Time, but it’s important to note that Goku would resist transmutation with Ki, not by himself.
It’s in abilities that this gets much more interesting. Sonic possesses a lot of great abilities. Precognition can alert Sonic of Goku’s attacks and make him stop it, he has a lot of attacks that have long range, parry can also be pretty helpful, Insta-shield can debatably ignore durability and Ichikoro can instantly knock out Goku. Cyloop can give Sonic more Rings and things like Ring Magnets and Ring Can can give him even more. Goku’s abilities are much more simple energy blasts, which Sonic can counter or easily dodge, and Sonic has been capable of resisting power nullification and sealing, meaning Mafuba wouldn’t be really helpful. Additionally, physically, Goku wouldn’t be able to harm Super Sonic. Characters in forms that are less powerful like Hero/Dark Shadow is able to completely ignore several physical attacks, and even take an Anti-Matter cannon right in his face, and Super Sonic himself is not harmed by characters who possess equal levels of power like the Titans, Final Weapon, etc., and is explicitly hurt only by characters who were either related or connected to the Chaos Emeralds or had a power greater than his. But here comes Goku’s big triumph, the Hakai. Sonic has proven no way of being capable of resisting the Hakai. Yes, Sonic has resisted existence erasure and time manipulation before, but he has no deals around soul manipulation. You could argue that he would resist with more powerful forms like Super Sonic, giving characters like Tails resisted Ifrit’s control to a certain degree and Silver was completely unaffected, but this is not really concrete enough to say Sonic would resist it. That is though, if you do believe Goku’s Hakai is as powerful as, say, Beerus. But one thing that Sonic has that Goku has no ways to deal is the powerful Chaos technique, Chaos Control. Goku has never shown capabilities of resisting a powerful time manipulation ability as Chaos Control before. Jiren didn’t transcend time itself. Sure, Vados and Shin said so, but it’s important to look at the context. Jiren was able to break out of Hit’s ability with sheer power alone. If he really was transcending time, he wouldn’t be affected in the first place. Even if this gave Goku a certain resistance to time stop, Chaos Control has been shown to work in Sonic himself, which already resists time stops via the Time Switch, meaning Chaos Control must be a layered technique. Things like reality warping with the Chaos Control or Darkspine Sonic would be a problem for Goku, as well as conceptual manipulation, though you can argue Sonic wouldn’t use that. His power nullification aura can possibly affect Goku, but God Ki isn’t affected by Android 21’s power reducing waves, implicating that Goku might resist it. Ultra Instinct and its variants grant Goku very impressive levels of evasive techniques and ability, but as said priorly, Sonic has a lot of items that decrease the chance of Goku hitting him, and even then, Sonic can sense opponents’ attacks before they happen. Sonic’s sheer versatility gives him a very good advantage in this category.
Tertiary Factors
Sonic has his mastery in combat, and is very skilled. Sonic has dealt with characters like Shadow and Knuckles, who are both very skilled in hand-to-hand combat and martial arts, and Emerl, who copies the fighting style of every character playable in Sonic Battle. He is cocky, but he is incredibly very smart. Capable of dealing with Eggman’s genius intellect on a daily basis, and even hack his technology. Sonic was also able to use Chaos Control with a fake Emerald, an amazing feat. Not only that, but Sonic deals with gods and cosmic beings several times. But all of that simply doesn’t compare to Son Goku. While Goku isn’t booksmart, he’s a genius in combat, constantly being able to learn new techniques just by looking at them once, and being able to create new strategies to defeat new opponents. Goku has been fighting for decades, and has fought against foes whose growth capacities are quite frankly insane, like Frieza, fought against beings who have lived for centuries and millennia, and in the case of Beerus, for millions of years, much like Sonic, but significantly better. Goku trains everyday, and has years of experience, fighting since he was a child. So it’s no push to say Son Goku takes this.
Conclusion
Goku
Advantages:
Stronger, faster, and more durable than base form Sonic
Can resist some of Sonic’s insta-win options like Ring Time and Asteroid Wisp
Faster in finite ends, and equal in speed with infinite ends
Much more skilled and experienced
Recovering with Senzu Beans can give Goku Zenkai Boosts, making him much stronge
Hakai could instantly end the fight...
Can he beat Goku, though?
Disadvantages:
Weaker
Outlasted by Sonic’s better time limits and stamina recovering items, even with Senzu Beans
Less intelligent overall
Still has ways to be instantly knocked out
Outclassed by Sonic’s versatility
Chaos Control would work on Goku no matter what
…if you buy Goku’s Hakai not being a weaker version, which also has arguments
Sonic
Advantages:
Stronger
Equal in speed with infinite ends
Much better arsenal and abilities, with items that can heal him, make him land a hit with 100% accuracy, have better control over the battlefield, multiply his speed, predict Goku’s movements, the list goes on
Chaos Control, Ichikoro and possibly Hyper Flash would instantly end the fight
Overall smarter
Outlasts Goku’s stamina
Goku wouldn’t physically be able to hurt his Super forms
Resists more potent options like the Mafuba, and can resist Hakai in certain interpretations…
Actually had a good live action film adaptation
Disadvantages:
Base form gets outmatched
Slower with finite ends
Much less skilled and experienced
Cocky attitude can be a drawback
…however, if Goku’s Hakai is not a weaker version, Sonic’s arguments for resisting it are not that concrete and involves hypothetical discussion
Several of his abilities are resisted
With that being said, this was an interesting fight. Both Goku and Sonic are tricky when it comes to versus debating. They both have a lot of scaling that a half buy and the other half don't, making this fight dependent on what you buy for a majority of people. But at least for me and the rest of the members that participated on this blog, we believe that the Blue Blur should take it more times than not. He is stronger, equal in speed, and his much better arsenal and abilities overwhelm Goku’s.
It’s no doubt that Goku’s amazing fighter himself, much more skilled and experienced, can debatably kill Sonic with Hakai, and has other notable advantages, but Sonic’s advantages in the end ultrapasses the Super Saiyan’s, Super forms and tons of items he could choose from.
Call us in-saiyan if you want, but Sonic had everything he needed to pull a-hedge against Son Goku.
The winner of this blog is Sonic the Hedgehog.
